Position: Point of Care Lab Technician – Laboratory Technologist

Location: San Leandro, CA
Job Type: Permanent / Direct Hire
Shift: Evenings
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM–10:30 PM
Hours: 40 hours/week
Pay: $26.00–$32.00/hour

We are seeking a qualified Laboratory Technologist / Point of Care Lab Technician to join our team in San Leandro, California.

This position is ideal for a licensed MLT, CLS, or LVN with laboratory testing experience who enjoys working in a mobile or remote laboratory environment. The successful candidate will perform waived point-of-care testing, specimen processing, quality control, data entry, and related laboratory functions while supporting STAT testing needs.

Important Transportation Requirement

The selected candidate must drive to 10948 Bigge St, San Leandro, CA 94577 to pick up and return the company van during every shift.

A valid driver's license and good driving record are required.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform waived laboratory testing in a mobile or remote setting.
• Receive specimens from phlebotomists and couriers.
• Enter patient demographics and test orders into the laboratory information system.
• Perform required quality control before testing and reporting results.
• Perform point-of-care testing that may include:
• • Chemistry
  • Hematology
  • Urinalysis
  • Molecular testing
  • Coagulation
• Enter and document test results accurately.
• Confirm abnormal results before releasing results.
• Escalate rare, improbable, or problematic results to the appropriate supervisor or manager.
• Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection as needed.
• Process specimens and maintain accurate requisition records.
• Monitor the STAT board and help ensure turnaround-time goals are consistently met.
• Maintain laboratory supplies and documentation required by state regulations.
• Troubleshoot client, instrument, and computer issues.
• Perform routine maintenance on automated laboratory instrumentation.
• Maintain quality-control records for laboratory assays.
• Follow all laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
• Perform clerical and administrative duties related to specimen identification, integrity, testing, and reporting.
• May operate a delivery van to transport the mobile laboratory to high-volume STAT testing locations when applicable.

Qualifications

Required

• California-qualified testing personnel for waived testing
• Must be a licensed Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
• Valid California license/certification as applicable
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record
• Ability to safely operate a vehicle
• Familiarity with laboratory processes and workflow
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to meet applicable California laboratory testing personnel requirements
• COVID-19 vaccination required , or approved exemption with appropriate documentation

Preferred

• Previous phlebotomy experience
• Previous laboratory testing experience
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Strong organizational skills
• Accuracy and precision in laboratory procedures
• Experience working in a mobile, remote, outpatient, or point-of-care laboratory environment
