ROLE AND PURPOSE:

Maintain the physical school plant and grounds in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of them may be made at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures. Attend training for Pesticide/Herbicide licensing. Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to follow verbal or written instructions. Knowledge to communicate effectively (verbally). Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment. Ability to lift from 20 to 30 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally. Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies. Knowledge of athletic and turf management. Knowledge of building and ground maintenance and basic techniques of. Demonstrate aptitude for successful completion of the tasks assigned. Ability to work independently.

ATHLETIC GROUNDSKEEPER

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Maintain a program of preventive maintenance to ensure that auxiliary services are supportive of the instructional goals. Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency. Know location and proper care and use of all fire-fighting equipment. Assume the responsibility of opening and closing the building. Establish and follow procedures for locking, checking, and safe-guarding facilities. Maintain the grounds of all CCISD game and practice fields. Cut the lawns, using power mowers and hand mowers; trim and edge around walks, spray lawn, shrubs, and trees with insecticide and fertilizer; rake, clean, sweep, and deposit litter complying with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of litter. Repair fences, gates, walls, and walks using carpentry and masonry tools. Paint fences and outbuildings as needed. Operate tractor equipment with attachments such as mowers, lime or fertilizer spreader, lawn roller and other machinery as required. Mark the fields with a marking machine. Scrub, hose down, and disinfect showers and toilet floors, clean all sanitary fixtures, hardware, tile, mirrors, and etc. Replenish restrooms with supplies as needed. Operate equipment and use tools following established safety procedures. Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required. Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and order additional supplies as needed. Remain on the school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the grounds have been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the supervisor. Plan and maintain a high standard of safety, efficiency, good housekeeping methods in all areas of work. Strive constantly to promote the safety, health, and comfort of students and employees. Follow all safety codes and standards. Maintain clean/neat appearance. Complete job assignments in a reasonable length of time. Perform duties without supervision. Easy to work with; does his/her share of work. Get along well with co-workers and supervisor/ foreman. Respond well to constructive suggestions. Use materials and time to best advantage. Be conservative with supplies/materials. Be efficient and show initiative in the job. Establish an efficient and effective system of maintenance and plan and maintain a high standard of safety and cleanliness in the work area. Have an understanding in performing a wide variety of tasks in his/her job field. Plan for utilization of work to accomplish tasks. Ask questions and solicit help from supervisor/ foreman when needed. Show respect and support supervisor/foreman’s decision. Maintain a program of preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff. Plan and maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency. Follow all safety codes and standards. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and State and Local Board policies. Strive to complement CCISD’s total program of serving the students. Report to work on time. Maintain a high level of good attendance. Take care of vehicles and equipment furnished by Calhoun County ISD. Keep the assigned vehicle clean and stocked with supplies. Return equipment used when job assignment is complete. Practice rules and regulations regarding Sexual Harassment and FERPA Laws. Perform other duties as assigned. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Garden tools; small hand tools; power tools; heavy equipment including backhoe, tractor, grader; and power mower; light truck or van. Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving. Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis. Environment: Work outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemical (herbicides and fertilizer) and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district wide travel. Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress.
