MISSION STATEMENT

The Criminal District Court Pretrial Services Program serves the community by providing objective information for bail decisions, improving court appearances, and advancing public safety.

Position Summary

 
The Pretrial Services Program is under the programming arm of Criminal District Court’s Court Intervention Services (CIS) Department. Pretrial Intake Specialist will conduct Public Safety Assessments of all arrestees attending First Appearance Hearings. The Pretrial Intake Specialist’s role is to assist the court in making informed pretrial release and/or detention decisions with the completion of the Public Safety Assessments.  and the verification of all criminal histories.

Education Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree or greater, and valid credentialing from associated boards or associations (if applicable) is preferred. One year of relevant experience with diverse populations a plus. Fluency in Spanish, Vietnamese or American Sign Language preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

·         Extremely strong work ethic and a commitment to working within a team during shift work.

·         Strong organizational skills.

·         Possess knowledge and/or understanding of Louisiana criminal laws and legal terminology.

·         Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.

·         Must be able to work efficiently under strict time constraints.

·         Possess a willingness to work with persons in distress and under stressful circumstances.

·         Ability to acquire security clearance from Louisiana State Police and Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff’s Office.

·         Experience working with system-involved individuals strongly preferred.

·         Ability to work with Magistrate Court, including weekends, holidays and during emergency scheduling.

Functions and Responsibilities:

·         Interview arrestees before first appearance to gather relevant criminal history information and additional contact information.

• Prepare, review, and summarize criminal history records of arrestees at First Appearance Hearings.
• Peer review, updating and correcting Public Safety Assessment (PSA) completed prior to first appearance hearing.
• Prepare Public Safety Assessments and respond to inquiries from the court.
• Accurately enter and/or retrieve information from the court management system in a timely, detailed manner.
• Assist arrestees as resources permit.
• Present Public Safety Assessments to Judges and/or Commissioners before and during court proceedings.

·         Collect contact information on all first appearance arrestees placed in Pretrial supervision.

·         Provide arrestees with Pretrial supervision notification, requirements, and contact information for the Pretrial office. 

·         Input required data into the case management system, including, but not limited to, all bonds for First Appearances and client contact information promptly.

·         Notify the Pretrial Services Director, administrative assistant, and case managers, of new supervision referrals with a copy of green PTS release documents and/or via email.

• Provide public access to Public Safety Assessments while maintaining the utmost confidentiality of court information and records according to state law and court rules.
• Comply with all court, department, and work policies and rules. This includes, but is not limited to, attendance, safety, a drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Court Services Administrator and Pretrial Services Director.

Physical Requirements:

·   This position is in an office environment Monday thru Friday and virtual on weekends and holidays.

·   Regularly required to sit, walk, and stand.

·   Sitting 70%, Standing 15%, and Walking 15%.

This is a full-time position plus benefits (state retirement, dental, life, medical, vision).
