Senior Account Clerk

RESIDENCY

Candidates must have been legal residents of the following jurisdiction(s) for at least four months immediately preceding the date of the application: Livingston County, or one of the following counties: Allegany, Genesee, Monroe, Ontario, Steuben or Wyoming.

RELATED COLLEGE DEGREE

If the applicant is relying on a related college degree to qualify, the applicant must submit a copy of their unofficial college transcript with the application. This must be followed by an official transcript directly sent to the Livingston County Human Resources Department before completing the onboarding process.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversight and classification of a variety of receipts and expenditures, distributing items according to prescribed procedures. Preparation of bills for individual and third‑party payers, recording remittances after computing interest and penalties. Reviewing and checking account‑keeping records and reports for arithmetical and clerical accuracy, completeness and proper extension. Verification and reconciliation of individual account balances. Conducting correspondence on matters where policies and procedures are well defined. Issuing receipts for monies received. Compiling payroll data, preparing and checking payrolls. Compiling and preparing labor, material and operational cost records and reports. Processing, sorting, indexing, recording and filing of a variety of control records and reports. Providing information in response to telephone or personal requests. Preparation of reports from journal or ledger. Compiling data for, and preparing and analyzing complex financial and statistical records and reports. Performing other related duties as assigned. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS Good knowledge of modern methods of keeping and reviewing financial records; good knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; good knowledge of business English; ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to write legibly; ability to make arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; ability to get along well with others; clerical aptitude; mental alertness; a high degree of accuracy; tact; courtesy; physical condition commensurate to the demands of the position.

QUALIFICATION OPTIONS

Applicants must meet all requirements for one of the following qualification options to be approved for examination and/or appointment. Qualification Option #1 Training/Education: Possession of an Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a related field of study. General experience: Six months of full‑time, paid experience maintaining financial records. Supervisory experience: None applicable. License/Certification: None required. Other requirements: None required. Qualification Option #2 Training/Education: Possession of an Associate’s degree. General experience: One year of full‑time, paid experience maintaining financial records. Supervisory experience: None applicable. License/Certification: None required. Other requirements: None required. Qualification Option #3 Training/Education: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency diploma. General experience: Three years of full‑time, paid experience maintaining financial records. Supervisory experience: None applicable. License/Certification: None required. Other requirements: None required.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Part‑time service will be given prorated credit toward experience requirements.

PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT NOTICE

An individual who receives a provisional appointment must take the examination for the position title on the next occasion it is offered. To be eligible for a permanent appointment, the provisional appointee must pass the exam and be ranked 1, 2, 3, or tied in score with the individual ranked number 3 among those willing to accept appointment to the position. Even if eligible, the employer may choose another candidate for permanent appointment. NOTE Livingston County residency is not a requirement for this position.
