Medical Laboratory Scientist II – Hastings, MI Shift: 7:00 am – 7:00 pm, every other weekend. Pay Range $26.32+ per hour. Salary offers are based on relevant skills, training, experience, education, certifications, and market factors. Eligible for annual performance bonus. Responsibilities Demonstrate proficiency in all testing areas and troubleshoot instruments/procedures. Support quality control, complex problem troubleshooting, customer support, instrument maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects. Perform and report assigned analytical tests per SOP, ensuring quality control requirements. Actively support and comply with laboratory policies for specimen handling, testing, reporting, and record keeping. Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround times, including STAT or critical results to clients. Ensure reagents/test kits have correct dates and are opened appropriately. Document quality control analysis and decide on assay/test disposition. Inform supervisors of problems affecting test procedures and report deviations for investigation. Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for physician review. Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition. Complete training and competency checklists as needed. Assist supervisor with training other personnel. Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements. Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practice controls as directed. Answer client or lab personnel questions. Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections. Assume lead responsibilities when supervisor absent, if qualified and delegated. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications One (1) year full‑time experience or training in high‑complexity clinical laboratory testing. Preferred: Minimum of 3 years clinical experience with most recent year in current department. BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or Associates in Laboratory Science/Medical Technology. ASCP Certification required within one year of start. Knowledge of designated specialty, departmental policies, and departmental procedures. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems. Proven leadership, problem‑solving, detail‑orientation, independent work, and multitasking skills. Comprehensive understanding of organizational and departmental policies. Foreign‑educated candidates must provide credential evaluation; US‑educated candidates must provide official transcripts. Compliance with state testing certifications as applicable. Physical and Mental Requirements Lifting and carrying: 1‑10 lb frequently; 11‑25 lb occasionally; 36‑50 lb rarely; over 50 lb only with assistance. Ability to stand at a bench for long periods and frequent walking or standing. Use of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments requiring manual dexterity.
