Shuttle Bus Driver

POSITION: Shuttle Driver

SALARY: $20.34, per hour

REPORTS TO: Inchelium Ferry/Transit Program Manager

LOCATION: Inchelium , WA


Basic Functions: This is a Non-Exempt position. Drives a shuttle bus or small passenger type vehicle to transport patrons between locations using an established schedule and on special trips by dispatch or prior arrangements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training:
  • Requires a High School Diploma or the equivalent
  • Requires successful completion of the necessary classroom instructions related to skills and safety requirements for driving a passenger van. And have Two years of experience.
  • Requires a valid Drivers License and be eligible for the Tribes Insurance.
  • Requires a valid ARC First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate and maintain throughout employment.
  • Requires a cleared and current TB test.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Requires working knowledge and understanding of safe driving practices.
  • Requires a basic knowledge of the operating and mechanical characteristics of a passenger van.
  • Requires the basic understanding of State laws, rules and regulations pertaining to passenger van operations and transportation of personnel.
  • Requires the ability to know and understand how to apply first aid practices.
  • Requires sufficient reading and writing skills to prepare logs and reports following established formats.
  • Requires sufficient human relations skill to maintain harmony within a work team, show patience and enthusiasm, with customers, and convey a positive image of the Tribe.
  • Requires knowledge of geographic service area; understand dispatched instructions.
  • Requires a working knowledge and understanding of safe driving practices.
  • Requires a basic knowledge of the operating and mechanical characteristics of a passenger Shuttle.
  • Requires basic understanding of State laws, rules and regulations pertaining to passenger shuttle operations and transportation of personnel.
  • Requires sufficient reading and writing skills to prepare logs and reports following established formats.
  • Requires the ability to perform all of the duties of the position with minimal supervision.
  • Requires the ability to drive a transit vehicle safely and efficiently while keeping to well-established schedules.
  • Requires the ability to read and understand laws, rules, regulations and procedures for safe passenger shuttle operation and inspection.
  • Requires ability to recognize malfunctions in equipment and take appropriate action.
  • Requires the ability to maintain the assigned vehicle in clean and safe operating condition.
  • Requires the ability to learn, become certified, and apply first aid.
  • Requires the ability to city street layouts and designated routes, including stops and traffic hazards.
  • Requires the ability to perform routine, repetitive tasks, on a continuous basis and to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Requires the ability to maintain required records. Requires the ability to work cooperatively with passengers.
  • Requires the ability to work as contributing member of a team, work productively and cooperatively with other teams and external customers, and convey a positive image of the Tribes and its services.
  • Requires the ability to accurately complete reports to be used for one's time and vehicle schedule.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Requires the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other agencies and the public.
  • Requires the ability to understand and follow local, state, and federal regulations as applicable to the position and program, including maintaining a valid driver's license.
  • Requires the ability to identify and report problems of equipment malfunctions.
  • Requires the physical ability to perform functions in a vehicle and outdoors engaged in work of a moderately active nature.
  • Requires the ability to operate a passenger vehicle in excess of 12,000 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to work independently and safely operate a vehicle. Ability to work in a physical environment that includes bending, twisting, climbing, and lifting 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Requires arm-hand and leg-foot dexterity to drive a passenger van.
  • Requires visual acuity including depth perception to observe moving objects.
  • Requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Requires hearing sufficient to be aware of traffic and road distractions/conditions and listen to customers.
  • Requires the ability to assist passangers with limited mobility and lift passanger ambulatory aids such as wheel chairs onto platforms.
  • Requires ability to work non-standard hours.
  • Requires ability to perform in highway traffic environment where some safety considerations exist.
  • Must be able to drive in adverse weather conditions.

Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver's license and be eligible for the Tribes' Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
