Job Title: Maintenance Technician (Industrial Equipment) Job Description

The Maintenance Technician supports production and facility operations by troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and improving industrial equipment in an industrial manufacturing environment. This position may be filled at one of two levels based on experience and technical capability: a Maintenance Technician II with broad industrial maintenance skills or a higher-level technician with advanced PLC, controls, and industrial electrical expertise. The role focuses on ensuring reliable equipment performance, executing preventive maintenance, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives while working safely and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems, drive units, industrial hydraulic and pneumatic systems, plumbing, AC/DC circuits, electrical sensors and switches, motor controls, servo controllers, and machine safety circuits.

• Use hand tools, power tools, shop tools, and diagnostic equipment to replace components, make adjustments, calibrate machinery, and restore equipment to efficient operating condition.

• Perform preventive maintenance on production machinery, complete work according to schedule, and accurately document all completed tasks.

• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical prints, fluid-power drawings, and building plans to diagnose issues and perform repairs or modifications.

• Evaluate equipment for required repairs, enhancements, or upgrades and complete approved work to improve reliability and performance.

• Fabricate and install fixtures, guarding, and machine parts using layout, sheet-metal work, welding, machining, carpentry, and painting skills as needed.

• Maintain and repair pneumatic drills, screw guns, routers, saw motors, HVAC equipment, machine piping, and dust-collection systems as applicable.

• Use electrical test equipment to measure current, voltage, and resistance, and apply specialized meters such as Hipot and related testing equipment when qualified.

• Participate in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), 5S, and other continuous-improvement initiatives to enhance equipment uptime and workplace organization.

• Ensure that equipment guarding is in place and consistently follow lockout/tagout procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, hazardous-waste handling, and other applicable safety procedures.

• Maintain supplies and spare-parts inventory and assist with equipment or furniture moves as needed to support facility operations.

• Partner with Engineering on equipment changes, jigs, fixtures, plant layouts, equipment moves, additions, upgrades, and replacements.

• Coordinate with Information Technology on production equipment implementations and integrations, and work with external contractors when required.

• Operate or become qualified to operate lift equipment as needed to perform maintenance tasks safely and effectively.

• Communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, and production staff to prioritize work, minimize downtime, and support production goals.

• Complete additional duties as assigned to support overall production and facility-maintenance needs.

Essential Skills

• Two-year technical degree or equivalent training and/or five years of related industrial maintenance experience.

• Proven ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic problems in an industrial environment.

• Advanced hands-on maintenance skills in one or more areas such as electrical, plumbing, welding, carpentry, machine piping, HVAC, and dust collection.

• Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical prints, fluid-power drawings, and building plans.

• Working knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and electrical principles.

• Ability to properly use electrical, mechanical, and fluid-power testing equipment, including meters for current, voltage, and resistance.

• PC knowledge for troubleshooting and operating machine controls, touchscreens, and machine software.

• Knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures, PPE requirements, equipment guarding, and safe work practices in an industrial setting.

• Basic reading and math skills combined with strong troubleshooting, reasoning, analytical, and problem-solving ability.

• Effective written and verbal communication skills with strong organization, prioritization, and time-management capabilities.

• Ability to work independently without direct supervision while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.

• Ability to become a licensed lift-equipment operator.

• Physical ability to perform essential duties, including standing for up to 10 hours and lifting up to 50 pounds.

• For higher-level placement (Grade 52): at least two years of PLC troubleshooting experience, proficiency in PLC programming and machine controls (including frequency drives, servo drives, and touch panels), experience with Allen-Bradley PLC programming, experience troubleshooting sequential processes, and working knowledge of 480V and 208V three-phase, 120V single-phase, and 24V low-voltage circuitry and wiring.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Broad industrial maintenance capability suitable for independently troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems (Grade 51 level).

• Broad PLC knowledge for equipment troubleshooting and support (Grade 51 level).

• Advanced controls and industrial electrical capability, including PLC programming and machine controls (Grade 52 level).

• Experience with frequency drives, servo drives, and touch panels in an industrial production environment.

• Experience troubleshooting sequential processes and complex automated systems.

• Comfort working with energized systems under appropriate safety controls.

• Familiarity with TPM, 5S, and continuous-improvement methodologies.

• Ability to participate in or support plant layout changes, equipment moves, and upgrades.

• Comfort working with contractors and cross-functional teams such as Engineering and IT.

• Ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.

Work Environment

The role is based in an industrial production and facility-maintenance environment with a task-defined work pace that may vary depending on the equipment or materials being produced. The standard schedule is a first-shift assignment, typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime as needed to support production and maintenance demands. Work may involve exposure to energized systems, moving equipment, elevated noise levels, and other typical manufacturing hazards, with required safety controls and procedures in place. The position requires standing for extended periods (up to 10 hours) and lifting up to 50 pounds as part of routine duties. Employees use a variety of hand tools, power tools, shop tools, diagnostic instruments, electrical test equipment, and specialized meters when qualified. Proper PPE and adherence to lockout/tagout, equipment guarding, and safe work practices are essential components of the daily work environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $68640.00 - $81120.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
