Position Summary Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and takes the initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care, and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. This role integrates the professional practice model, current standards of practice, and clinical experience to provide quality patient care as measured by established nursing quality standards and governing/accrediting health care bodies. The Staff Nurse I engages and obtains information from patients and/or families, advocates for the patient, develops an appropriate educational plan, and responds to changing needs while collaborating with other health care team members to promote effective patient care. The Staff Nurse I participates in organizational, departmental, and shared leadership activities; supports department and unit goals in daily behavior. Duties & Responsibilities Complete required orientation program and unit-specific competencies. Administer chemotherapy, blood and blood products, fluids, injections, and create individualized care plans for patients under supervision. Recognize and treat cancer‑related issues. Recognize symptoms, establish priorities, and respond to patients’ changing needs. Verify and implement orders from physicians, physician assistants, and/or advanced practice nurses, documenting accurately in the electronic medical record. Share information and collaborate with other health care team members to promote effective care. Advocate for patients, families, and the community, and for the nursing profession. Perform related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation. Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit-specific certifications. Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, families, and health care providers. Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on‑the‑job training. Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history required. One year prior Oncology RN experience required. Current Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy certification required prior to hire. 1–2 years of prior infusion experience required. Preferred Qualifications Outpatient ambulatory experience highly preferred.
