SUMMARY :

Mortenson is hiring an Assistant Equipment Manager – Cranes, Project Coordination to support the planning and delivery of crane solutions across its projects. This role serves as a key connection point among project teams, crane planning, Fleet Operations, Technical Services, and external crane partners. The position coordinates project requirements, equipment commitments, commercial documentation, mobilization readiness, schedule changes, and ongoing communication to help deliver crane solutions safely, reliably, and at the right total cost.

The successful candidate will develop broad knowledge of Mortenson’s crane business and progressively assume greater ownership of project portfolios, customer relationships, commercial coordination, workload prioritization, and project-delivery leadership as experience and business needs grow.

RESPONSIBILITIES :  

Project coordination and delivery

• Serve as a primary crane-program contact for assigned projects from early planning through mobilization, active operations, demobilization, and closeout.
• Translate project requirements, schedules, site constraints, and changes into clear actions and accountable handoffs across crane planning, Fleet Operations, Technical Services, vendors, and project stakeholders.
• Maintain visibility to project commitments, decision dates, equipment requirements, mobilization milestones, and unresolved risks; communicate required actions and escalate issues that threaten safe, timely, or cost-effective delivery.
• Manage handoffs among estimating and preconstruction support, crane selection, commercial agreements, deployment, ongoing project support, and closeout.
• Establish and facilitate an appropriate project-coordination cadence, providing clear updates regarding availability, schedule, scope, cost, risks, and required decisions.
• Support resolution of service issues, schedule changes, equipment conflicts, and other delivery risks by engaging the appropriate internal and external resources.
• Develop trusted working relationships with project teams and provide consistent, responsive customer service throughout the crane engagement.

Commercial and contract coordination

• Manage the development, routing, and status tracking of crane-related proposals, estimates, task orders, rental agreements, and other project documentation.
• Support alignment of project scope, commercial terms, equipment rates, schedule assumptions, and change management.
• Monitor commitments, billing inputs, contract status, and project closeout requirements in partnership with internal support functions.
• Maintain accurate project and contract records within applicable systems.
• Help identify gaps between planned scope and actual project requirements and drive timely resolution.

Project financial and business support 

• Support project-level budgeting, cost forecasting, billing accuracy, and financial issue resolution for assigned crane engagements.
• Provide project demand, schedule, and utilization information to support fleet forecasting and business planning.
• Help project teams understand crane scope, rates, assumptions, logistics costs, and the financial impact of schedule or scope changes.
• Assist with internal and external crane comparisons using availability, constructability, schedule, risk, and total-cost considerations.

Deployment, logistics, and vendor management

• Equipment planning and scheduling with internal project teams, Equipment Solutions teammates, and third-party vendors (including supplemental crane providers when needed).
• Coordinate project requirements, target dates, site readiness information, and schedule changes with the Fleet Operations team responsible for deployment and transportation execution.
• Support vendor relations and sourcing efforts for key crane-related services (rental partners, hauling, specialty support, OEM/dealer service channels).

Systems, analytics, and process improvement 

• Maintain accurate project demand, equipment commitments, schedule milestones, commercial status, and delivery-risk information in applicable systems.
• Develop and maintain reporting that provides visibility to project pipeline, workload, commitments, upcoming decisions, and delivery performance.
• Use project and fleet information to identify conflicts, gaps, and improvement opportunities.
• Support standard work, templates, playbooks, and communication tools for crane project delivery.

Leadership and continuous improvement 

• Lead cross-functional coordination for assigned projects, even when team members do not report directly to the role.
• Establish clear ownership, follow-up, and accountability across project delivery activities.
• Foster an environment of collaboration and innovation both internally and externally.
• Support onboarding, knowledge sharing, standard work, and development of less-experienced team members.
• Identify recurring project-delivery issues and lead practical process improvements.
• Develop the business and leadership capabilities needed to assume broader project-delivery responsibility over time. 

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:

• Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of relevant experience in construction, equipment rental, project coordination, project management, or a related field; or 8+ years of equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience coordinating multiple projects, workstreams, or equipment commitments in a deadline-driven environment.
• Ability to organize changing or incomplete information, establish priorities, and drive issues to resolution.
• Ability to clearly communicate scope, schedule, cost, risk, responsibilities, and required decisions to varied stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships across project teams, operations, vendors, and support functions.
• Strong written, verbal, organizational, and customer-service skills.
• Ability to travel up to 15%.

PREFERRED: 

• Experience supporting crane, heavy-equipment, equipment-rental, or construction project-delivery programs.
• Experience coordinating equipment logistics, including mobilization, demobilization, transportation, and vendor coverage.
• Experience with proposals, rental agreements, task orders, change management, billing coordination, or contract administration.
• Working knowledge of project budgeting, cost forecasting, utilization, and performance reporting.
• Experience supporting vendor relationships and commercial discussions related to availability, cost, scope, and service.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional work and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
• Advanced Excel, reporting, workflow-improvement, or data-visualization capability.

The base pay range for this role is $100,100 - $150,200. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). 

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
