As a Power System Modeling Engineer Intern at ISO New England, you’ll help update and maintain the network model, create planning study cases, and analyze generation and load data. You’ll get hands-on experience with tools like PSS®E, work on real projects, and see how different ISO teams collaborate to keep the lights on. This internship is perfect for electrical engineering students with a power systems focus who love problem-solving, coding, and working with data. About the Department The Model Administration and Support Group is responsible for the design, testing, and implementation of power system model changes, with a focus on applications that support power flow, dynamic analysis, contingency analysis, and market operations. This work ensures the accuracy and reliability of the models that are critical to both real-time operations and long-term system planning. What You’ll Be Working On As a Power System Modeling Engineer Intern, you will: Assist with data handling and updates to the New England Network Model. Help create planning study cases for transmission owners. Update generation profiles by gathering data from multiple sources. Review and maintain contingency project data, load profiles, and resource data. Support the Model Administration and Support Team in testing and validating model changes. How You’ll Make an Impact You’ll help keep New England’s power grid running smoothly by updating models, analyzing system data, and supporting real planning studies. Your work will give engineers the tools they need to ensure reliable electricity today – and prepare the grid for tomorrow. What We Look For in a Candidate Graduate student preferred, but rising seniors will be considered if requirements are met. Enrollment in an electrical engineering program with a power systems concentration. Experience with PSS®E preferred. Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work independently as well as within a small team environment. Interns are eligible for some paid time off benefits and have access to our wellness program. Our internships also provide interns with exposure to the energy industry, mentorships, and real-world experience. This is a U.S. based role. If the successful candidate resides outside of the U.S., relocation will be required. To be eligible for an internship with ISO New England, a candidate must have completed at least the first year of college and be currently enrolled in a four year or graduate-level academic program.
