PURPOSE: The Food Transporter ensures the safe and timely delivery of nutritious meals to children in the RCMA program, supporting their health, development, and learning by maintaining food safety and contributing to a positive mealtime experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; however, other duties may be assigned.

Food Transportation and Delivery:

1. Safely operates a vehicle in all weather conditions
2. Picks up the food from the kitchen twice a day.
3. Ensures the food is placed in stainless steel containers and in food warmers before transporting from the central kitchen.
4. Returns breakfast pans to the central kitchen and repeats procedures for lunch and snacks.
5. Places stainless steel containers into the electrical food warmers upon arrival at the center.

Food Preparation and Distribution:

1. Prepares individual food bowls for each classroom, covers with film or foil paper, and labels each bowl with the date.
2. Sets out milk and/or juice for each classroom.
3. Observes approved Child Care Food Program (CCFP) meal times and assists the teachers as needed to ensure smooth, timely meal service.

Monitoring and Documentation

1. Ensures, maintains, and documents safe food temperatures.
2. Records daily food temperatures on the Food Temperature Log, before leaving the central kitchen and upon arriving at the center.
3. Records the daily temperatures for the refrigerator and freezer on the Temperature Log early in the morning.
4. Records the number of meals served on the Daily Meal Count within one hour of each meal.

Sanitation and Compliance:

1. Cleans and sanitizes the food preparation area after each meal.
2. Cleans and organizes refrigerators and freezers weekly to maintain hygiene and proper food storage.
3. Washes dishes daily to ensure a clean and sanitary kitchen environment.
4. Keeps the food pantry and cabinets clean and organized, ensuring no expired items are stored.
5. Follows Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) protocol to comply with food safety standards set by the health department.
6. Adheres to all RCMA funding guidelines, Department of Health (DOH), the Child Care Food Program (CCFP), and Department of Children and Families (DCF) regulations.

Training and Reporting:

1. Requires attending annual trainings for the Child Care Food Program (CCFP), including Food Program Operations, Department of Health (DOH) Record Keeping, and Civil Rights Compliance.
2. Ensures all kitchen records, including the USDA binder, are accurate and current, in accordance with RCMA’s procedures and CCFP regulations and policies.
3. Promptly report any accidents or incidents to the Center Coordinator, following RCMA’s insurance reporting requirements.

Backup Responsibilities:

1. In the absence of the cook, the individual prepares the food for children and staff in accordance with established policies and procedures.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty element satisfactorily while exercising independent judgment and discretion under the supervision of the Center Coordinator. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The individual must meet age, medical, moral, character, and any other requirements as defined by Florida Statutes. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

• If School Readiness, DCF 45 hours would be required if the employee works directly with children or is unsupervised with children. The certificate could be obtained by attending the class virtually.

• Within 30 days of employment, a Food Handler’s Certificate or Health Department Certificate must be obtained. The certificate of Food Safety in Child Care could be obtained by attending classes virtually and must be renewed every 4 years.

If the employee is located in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties, within 30 days of employment, a Food Handler's Certificate or Health Department Certificate must be obtained. For these counties, the certificate can be obtained by attending the class in person.

EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum 1 year of experience in preparing food for large groups

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Familiarity with the community being served, including relevant occupational or cultural experience (e.g., farmworker background when applicable).

• Familiarity with portion size and general nutritional concepts.

• CPR/First Aid certification.

• Food handling certification

• Bilingual in English/Spanish

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be age 21 or older, must possess or be able to obtain a Florida driver's license, and have a driving record that meets RCMA’s insurance carrier requirements.
• Must have dependable transportation.
• Must be able to participate in field trips.

If the individual will perform other duties that involve classroom instruction, the individual must complete the Introductory Child Care Training mandated by the Department of Children and Families (DCF).
