Title:- Principal Quality Engineer

Position Summary

The Principal Quality Engineer is a senior technical individual contributor responsible for improving software quality, delivery reliability, and engineering effectiveness across multiple teams and technology platforms.

This role goes well beyond traditional QA or test automation. The Principal Quality Engineer will operate across Quality Engineering, Software Engineering, Architecture, SRE, Release Management, Product, and Operations to identify systemic quality problems, define strategies, influence technical decisions, and drive measurable improvements.

The successful candidate will combine deep Quality Engineering expertise with software engineering knowledge, systems thinking, organizational influence, and practical experience applying AI to engineering workflows.

This position has no direct people-management responsibility. Leadership is exercised through technical credibility, influence, mentoring, architecture guidance, problem solving, and execution.

3. AI Fluency in Engineering

Demonstrated practical experience applying modern AI tools to engineering workflows.

• Requirements analysis

• Test coverage analysis

• Engineering productivity

Experience should extend beyond simply using an AI coding assistant to generate code.

Candidates should also understand AI limitations, hallucination risk, validation requirements, security considerations, intellectual-property concerns, data privacy, governance, and appropriate human oversight.

Required Experience

• 10+ years of experience in Quality Engineering, Software Engineering, Platform Engineering, SDET, Test Architecture, or closely related disciplines

• Experience operating at Staff, Principal, Architect, or equivalent technical-leadership level

• Experience leading major technical initiatives without direct management authority

• Deep understanding of modern software development and delivery practices

• Strong experience with automated testing and automation architecture

• Strong CI/CD knowledge

• Experience defining quality strategies covering multiple levels of testing

• Experience evaluating release risk and production readiness

• Understanding of distributed systems and modern application architectures

• Ability to review code and automation-framework implementations

• Ability to evaluate architecture and engineering tradeoffs

• Demonstrated experience applying AI to software-engineering workflows

Key Responsibilities Enterprise Quality Engineering Strategy

• Define Quality Engineering strategies, standards, patterns, and architectures.

• Establish approaches for unit, component, API, integration, contract, end-to-end, performance, resilience, and production validation.

• Improve defect prevention rather than relying primarily on defect detection.

• Identify opportunities to move quality activities earlier in the SDLC.

• Establish sustainable automation and quality practices across engineering teams.

Technical Leadership

• Review automation frameworks, engineering designs, and implementation strategies.

• Assess technical quality risks during architecture and design discussions.

• Help engineering teams select appropriate test approaches.

• Provide guidance without becoming the primary developer or test implementer.

• Mentor senior engineers, QE leads, and technical leaders.

Release Quality & Production Readiness

• Improve release-readiness processes.

• Develop risk-based approaches to release decisions.

• Improve CI/CD quality gates while maintaining development velocity.

• Analyze production incidents and escaped defects for systemic improvement opportunities.

• Incorporate observability and production telemetry into Quality Engineering strategies.

AI-Enabled Engineering

• Identify practical AI use cases across the SDLC.

• Evaluate emerging AI engineering capabilities.

• Apply AI to improve testing effectiveness, engineering productivity, and problem solving.

• Establish methods to measure whether AI adoption creates meaningful value.

• Promote responsible AI usage, including appropriate validation and governance.

Complex Problem Solving

• Take ownership of ambiguous quality and engineering problems.

• Investigate technical, process, architecture, and organizational contributors.

• Facilitate root-cause analysis.

• Convert findings into actionable improvement strategies.

• Drive sustainable corrective actions instead of temporary fixes.
