Surgical First Assistant

Schedule: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Assignment Details: Guaranteed Hours: 36.00, Contract Weeks: 13

Requirements:

• High School Education/GED or equivalent: Required
• Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
• Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) certification: Required
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor: Required
• Current nursing license per the state of assignment
• At least two years recent experience in field

Responsibilities:

• Assists the primary surgeon during surgical procedures.
• Provides exposure, hemostasis, tying or sewing, and other functions as determined by the primary surgeon.
• Prepares and positions patients for surgery, and assists in visualization of the operating field.
• Verifies the availability of surgical equipment and supplies and prepares the operating room environment according to surgical procedures.
• Performs pre-and postoperative activities to facilitate optimal patient care.
• Executes surgical hand scrub, gowning, and gloving procedures.
• Coordinates and participates in draping of patients.
• Reviews patient medical charts and associated documentation.
