Senior Tax Accountant

A well-established, full-service CPA firm is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to lead tax and accounting engagements for privately held businesses, nonprofit organizations, and individual clients.

This position is ideal for a motivated, detail-oriented tax professional who enjoys managing complex engagements, developing strong client relationships, and supporting the professional growth of junior staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns for individuals, corporations, S corporations, and partnerships.

• Lead tax and accounting engagements for privately held businesses and nonprofit organizations.

• Conduct complex federal and state tax research.

• Prepare written summaries, recommendations, and supporting documentation for clients and firm leadership.

• Monitor changes in federal, state, and local tax laws and evaluate their impact on clients.

• Provide year-end tax planning services for individuals and businesses.

• Develop and maintain trusted professional relationships with clients.

• Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned client engagements.

• Review annual trial balances, account reconciliations, and year-end journal entries.

• Identify tax-planning opportunities, compliance concerns, and potential financial risks.

• Manage multiple engagements, priorities, and deadlines.

• Assist with training, mentoring, and developing junior accounting staff.

• Collaborate with partners, managers, and other team members to ensure accurate and timely client deliverables.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.

• At least five years of current tax experience within a public accounting firm.

• Experience preparing and reviewing individual, corporate, and partnership tax returns.

• Strong knowledge of federal and state income-tax regulations.

• Experience conducting tax research and documenting technical conclusions.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and client-service skills.

• Ability to independently manage multiple engagements and meet deadlines.

• Proficiency with accounting and tax-preparation software.

• Ability to build professional relationships with clients, colleagues, and firm leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

• Six to ten years of public accounting tax experience.

• Active Certified Public Accountant or Enrolled Agent credential.

• Experience with multistate and multi-entity tax matters.

• Experience working with privately held businesses and nonprofit organizations.

• QuickBooks proficiency.

• Experience using CCH tax software.

• Previous experience reviewing staff work or supporting staff development.

Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated salary range is $75,000–$100,000 annually , based on experience, qualifications, and credentials.
