Teaching may include lecture‑discussion courses during day, evening, or Saturday, and/or online/distance education formats during Spring, Summer, and/or Fall semesters. Salary and Benefits Salary is based on a percentage of workload, up to a maximum of 67% of a full‑time load. Salary is prorated based on an initial hiring range of $38,464 – $55,582 per semester and is based on academic achievement, teaching, and related experience. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in the language being taught; or Bachelor’s degree in the language being taught plus a Master’s degree in another language or linguistics; or A valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in a Foreign Language, Ancient or Modern; or The equivalent of the above. Understanding of, and sensitivity to, diverse academic, socio‑economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff. Desired Qualifications Experience teaching a foreign language and culture, preferably at the community college level. Teaching, training, and/or cultural life experiences that enable instruction, tutoring, and mentoring of students from diverse backgrounds. Active collaboration with faculty, student groups, and college support services within the Department and Division. Solid knowledge of English, both written and spoken, is highly desirable. Duties and Responsibilities Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparation for in‑class or online/distance activities, evaluation of students’ work, and consultation with students. Maintain accurate class and other records required by the college. Submit attendance rosters and grade reports when due. Follow course outlines filed in the instruction offices. Maintain office hours each week, 0.5 hours per week per section. Observe, support, and enforce District and college regulations, policies, and programs. Provide each student with a written syllabus at the beginning of the course per the Faculty Handbook. Refer students to appropriate college sources for counseling and other student services. Assist students with advice on requirements for successful achievement in the subject area. Work cooperatively within the college community. Foster an environment that protects academic freedom. Foster a positive, harassment‑free, bias‑free working environment. Demonstrate respect for the dignity of each individual. Other Duties Any additional duties as assigned by the Department Chair or Dean. Selection Process Applications will be screened by department representatives on an as‑needed basis. Qualified applicants who best meet the division’s needs will be contacted for an interview. Travel expenses to attend an interview are the candidate’s responsibility.
