Department: 10109 Office of the Chief Clinical Officer Pay Range: $200,000.00 - $600,000.00 About the Role The Children’s National Fateh Center for Pain Management seeks a visionary leader with expertise in pediatric anesthesiology, neurology, or psychology and experience in pediatric pain management to serve as Center Director (PhD or MD/DO). The Center Director will build and lead a multi‑disciplinary, integrated team that includes anesthesiology, psychology, neurology, pain management, behavioral, occupational and physical therapy, nursing, nutrition, and more. The role includes strategic leadership, fostering a collaborative environment that integrates evidence‑based care with innovative research and high‑quality educational programs. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement the strategic vision for the Fateh Center for Pain Management, ensuring alignment with the Children’s National Hospital’s mission and strategic plan. Oversee the delivery of evidence‑based assessments and treatments for chronic pain conditions; manage and grow the clinical services. Partner with pain management specialists to develop, review, and optimize integrative treatment models. Direct didactic seminars, workshops, and case conferences; supervise early‑career team members and trainees. Engage in and lead scholarly activities, including publication and funded research related to pain management. Manage staff hiring, retention, and performance; collaborate with hospital administration to allocate resources. Preferred Qualifications Board certified in anesthesiology, neurology, or physiatry with completed fellowship in pain management or equivalent; or a psychologist with AIS‑accredited PhD/PsyD in clinical or health psychology. Licensed in DC/MD or license eligible (license required upon hire). Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical and administrative experience in pain management, preferably in an academic medical center; record of peer‑reviewed publications and preferably grant funding. Demonstrated expertise and experience in a pediatric pain rehabilitation program. Proven experience in program development, personnel management, and interdisciplinary team collaboration, with program and budget oversight. Required Skills and Knowledge Knowledge of current principles, methods, and procedures for medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment in the area of expertise. Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for medical care; ability to evaluate patient problems independently and develop a care plan. Ability to incorporate ethical concepts into patient care and discuss them with patients, families, and team members. Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and/or students in the area of expertise. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards. Commitment to continuing medical education and staying current on developments in the subspecialty. Required Licenses and Certifications Fully licensed and credentialed attending staff category physician on the medical staff of Children’s National Hospital (Required). Board certification in relevant secondary specialty (Preferred); Upon Hire (Required). Functional Accountabilities Hiring, onboarding, and orientation: Assist in recruitment, interview, credentialing, and orientation processes. Scheduling: Manage schedule requests, build daily schedules, and facilitate coverage during gaps or call‑outs. Staff management: Conduct regular staff meetings, provide updates on key topics, and facilitate discussions. Quality and process improvement: Identify and implement initiatives; assist with policy and protocol development. Clinical care review: Identify opportunities to improve care processes and implement changes. Subspecialty collaboration: Support evidence‑based pediatric care with multidisciplinary teams. Professional development: Promote mentorship and support educational initiatives for team members. Patient education: Facilitate and coordinate educational opportunities for physicians, providers, and multidisciplinary staff. Student and resident support: Oversee GME office activities and support trainee educational initiatives. Committee participation: Attend departmental and hospital‑wide committees, including ethics, provider wellbeing, and opioid stewardship. Strategic planning: Develop annual strategic plans and compile performance metrics for senior leadership.
