Speech Language Pathologist

Director of Teaching and Learning Strategic architect of instruction and assessment at the Iowa School for the Deaf. Responsible for a seamless, rigorous, bilingual (ASL & English) educational experience for students from Preschool through the 4PLUS transition program. Responsibilities Drive implementation of High‑Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) and ensure compliance with Iowa’s Literacy (HF 2618) and Math Counts laws. Oversee a comprehensive assessment system, adapting legislative requirements to meet the unique linguistic and cognitive needs of Deaf and Hard‑of‑Hearing learners. Serve as the bridge between state mandates and classroom reality, ensuring all requirements align with student needs. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in Education, Educational Administration, or Curriculum & Instruction. Iowa Teacher licensure upon hire. Iowa School Administrator License (or ability to obtain upon hire) – Evaluator Approval required. Experience & Skills Minimum 5 years of successful teaching experience in a Deaf Education or Special Education setting. Advanced ASL proficiency preferred; willingness to reach proficiency required. Data literacy for transforming metrics into actionable information. Proven leadership in adult learning, complex project management, and data‑driven outcomes improvement. Work Experience Program Coordinator Coordinate the Work Experience Program for the Iowa School for the Deaf’s High School and 4PLUS deaf and hard‑of‑hearing students. Facilitate implementation of the School’s Communication Policy and provide job coaching and training in job search, applications, resume writing, interviewing, and soft skills. Responsibilities Work with students 1:1, in small groups, or teach structured classes to develop employment readiness. Assess students for work readiness skills and match them with available job placement opportunities. Develop and maintain community partnerships, including regular contact with employers. Assist employers with ADA accommodation guidelines. Meet with job site supervisors to ensure successful placements and resolve problems. Monitor and evaluate students in the field; provide evaluations and feedback for report cards and IEP meetings. Act as first point of contact for employers, students, and parents during the program, including outside normal hours if necessary. Coordinate scheduling, transportation, food service, and evening or holiday work with relevant staff. Train staff working with students in the field. Collaborate with Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors, ISD staff, and community service coordinators. Assist in developing learning targets associated with work experience placements. Maintain compliance with Iowa and Federal law and ensure accurate paperwork. Maintain a database of work experience sites and associated skill requirements. Provide data and assessment of the work experience program. Teachers of the Deaf Provide services in support of the Iowa School for the Deaf’s mission to prepare deaf and hard‑of‑hearing students from pre‑school to age 21 for life as literate citizens. Primary Functions Communicate regularly with parents. Instruct students in a comprehensive, bilingual (ASL–English) manner, encouraging interactive learning. Develop and implement IEP protocols and goals. Follow curriculum and create lesson plans. Evaluate and document students’ progress; maintain reports and grades. Qualifications Completion of an Education degree and eligibility to meet State of Iowa teacher licensure requirements. Able to sign short phrases and demonstrate advanced ASL proficiency. Fingerspelling and reading of others’ fingerspelling at normal rate. Broad vocabulary and ability to have conversations with spontaneous elaboration on work and social topics. Experience working with Deaf and Hard‑of‑hearing students. Teaching license with subject area endorsement and deaf/hard‑of‑hearing endorsement. Speech and Language Pathologist Provide direct speech‑language services to students age birth‑to‑21, collaborating with teachers and support staff to meet student goals. Responsibilities Conduct assessments for 3‑year evaluations and annual IEPs. Design and designate service delivery models for speech‑language services. Develop flexible schedules based on student need within IEPs. Engage in consultation and collaboration with LEAs, AEAs, parents, medical and community agencies. Provide intervention activities and support development of compliant IEPs. Assist the Principal with priority matters and address concerns regarding service provision. Perform all services in accordance with Iowa School for the Deaf policies, Iowa State Department of Education regulations, and professional ethics. Qualifications Master’s Degree in Speech‑Language Pathology and meet Iowa Department of Education guidelines or hold a current license from the Iowa State Board of Speech‑Language Pathology and a Statement of Professional Recognition. Experience working with Deaf and Hard‑of‑Hearing students. Knowledge of Iowa Core and Expanded Core Curriculum for Deaf and Hard‑of‑Hearing students. School Psychologist Collaborate with ISD teachers, counselors, and other professionals to assist students in meeting their goals. Responsibilities Conduct school‑wide student assessments and complete academic, intellectual, adaptive behaviour, and psychological evaluations. Write re‑evaluation plans, full and individual evaluations, and comprehensive psychological reports. Assist faculty and staff in interpreting assessments and IEP goal writing. Provide direct consultation, coaching, and modeling of instructional techniques. Oversee IEP development, ensuring compliance and quality. Attend IEP meetings, provide support for student attainment, and counsel students in personal/social, academic, and emotional domains. Provide crisis counseling and referral services to community agencies. Communicate with parents and maintain program support. Participate in continuing professional development activities. Use research in school practice by reading literature, distributing findings, and conducting action research. Qualifications Completion of an Education degree eligible for State of Iowa licensure as a School Psychologist. Advanced level of American Sign Language required.
