Staff Data EngineerLocation: New York City, NYEmployment Type: Full-TimeCompensation: $200,000 - $400,000 base + equityWe are working with a growing technology company in New York City that is looking for a Staff Data Engineer to join its engineering team.This is a highly technical, hands-on role for an experienced engineer who enjoys building new systems, solving complex data problems, and taking significant ownership over architecture and execution. You will have the opportunity to work across data engineering, software development, and modern AI/ML applications.What You'll DoDesign and build scalable, production-grade data systems and pipelinesDevelop systems for ingesting, processing, and organizing large and complex datasetsBuild backend services, APIs, integrations, and internal data toolingOwn major technical initiatives from architecture through productionDesign data models and infrastructure that support data-intensive applicationsMake technical decisions around storage, orchestration, scalability, reliability, and performanceBuild reusable tools and systems that improve engineering efficiencyPartner closely with engineering, product, and business teams to solve complex technical problemsHelp establish engineering standards, architecture patterns, and technical best practicesProvide technical leadership while remaining highly hands-onWhat We're Looking ForStrong software engineering and computer science fundamentalsExperience operating at a Staff, Lead, Principal, or comparable senior IC levelSignificant experience designing and building production data systemsStrong proficiency with Python and SQLExperience with data modeling, databases, APIs, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructureExperience building and operating modern data pipelines and platformsAbility to take complex and ambiguous technical problems from concept through productionExperience working in a startup or fast-growing technology environmentStrong communication and cross-functional collaboration skillsBachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical disciplinePreferred QualificationsExperience building data infrastructure supporting machine learning or AI applicationsExperience with modern cloud data platformsExperience working with large, complex datasetsExperience building new products, platforms, or infrastructure from an early stageExperience working directly with customers or external stakeholdersAdvanced degree in a technical disciplineCompensationThe anticipated base salary range for this position is $200,000 - $400,000 per year, depending on experience and technical expertise, plus equity.This is a full-time position based in New York City.
