Customer Service (Dispatcher) Part-Time and Full-Time

ATTENTION ALL ALASKA RESIDENTS! The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Alaska Marine Highway System is a seeking a highly motivated AMHS Dispatcher to join our team and play a pivotal role in helping us Keep Alaska Moving! You’ll coordinate crew assignments across Southeast and Southwest Alaska, match qualified mariners to the right vessels, and respond quickly when schedules change or last‑minute coverage is needed. You’ll balance crew qualifications, seniority, availability, travel, and contractual requirements while ensuring vessels remain safely and properly staffed. You’ll also coordinate travel, leave, payroll‑related issues, and crew records while working closely with vessel employees, union representatives, and AMHS staff to keep operations running smoothly. They are responsible for scheduling and dispatching licensed and unlicensed employees on our vessels, assisting staff with various questions, and will serve as a resource for collective bargaining agreements. If filled in Ketchikan, the position will be located at the AMHS Headquarters, 7037 North Tongass Highway in Ketchikan. Old-growth trees in a temperate rain forest create clean air and clean water, as well as many opportunities for adventure. Knowledge of procedures for assessing, evaluating, and monitoring programs or projects for compliance with Federal laws, regulations, and guidance. Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving : uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary. Graduation from high school or the equivalent and one year of advanced clerical experience equivalent to a Human Resource Assistant, Administrative Clerk 3 or Accounting Clerk 2 with the State of Alaska. One year of postsecondary education (32 semester hours or 48 quarter hours equal 1 year) from an accredited college or university in any field may substitute for the required experience. High school graduation "equivalent" means one of the following: 2) completion of any basic adult education course of 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 hours per week); 3) six months of work experience performing duties related to office or clerical support; 4) twelve months of work experience involving some routine tasks related to office or clerical support; 5) highest grade of school completed plus any kind of work experience which totals 12 years; ALASKA RESIDENTS ONLY To verify education is being used to meet and/or support the required minimum qualifications/competencies, you must fill in the Education section of the application.
