Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)

ALBANY AREA PRIMARY HEALTH CARE, INC.

Job Description

Job Description

About Company:

As one of the largest primary care practices in Southwest Georgia, Albany Area Primary Health Care (AAPHC) provides health care services to more than 54,964 patients and nearly 217,386 office visits per year. AAPHC is also one of the largest Community Health Centers in our region!

At AAPHC, we strive to provide comprehensive, coordinated, and continuous care to all who access our services. Did you know that all qualifying medical offices operated by AAPHC are recognized as a Level III Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) by the National Center for Quality Assurance (NCQA)? NCQA offers three levels of PCMH recognition with Level III being the highest level. As a Level III PCMH, AAPHC is committed to continuously raising the quality of care within our practices, while also lowering our patients health care costs.

Our health care teams are comprised of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurse midwives. Assisting these providers are clinical staff members, laboratory personnel, and business office professionals.

All phones are forwarded to an answering service at the close of each business day, on weekends, and holidays. Our goal is to always provide access, and even expand access, to your provider so you always can reach AAPHC when you need us most!

When you visit an AAPHC office, you can trust that you'll be well cared for by our team. Always.

About the Role:

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a critical role in supporting healthcare providers by delivering high-quality clinical and administrative assistance in a medical setting. This position ensures efficient patient flow by performing clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting with procedures while maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols. The CMA is responsible for accurate documentation and management of patient information, contributing to effective communication within the healthcare team. By applying specialized knowledge in needle safety and disposal, the CMA helps maintain a safe environment for patients and staff. Ultimately, this role enhances patient care quality and operational efficiency within healthcare facilities across the United States.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) from an accredited organization such as the AAMA.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in needle safety and proper disposal techniques.
  • Proficiency in conducting client needs assessments and supporting clinical consultations.
  • Familiarity with healthcare documentation standards and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Ability to comply with all relevant healthcare regulations and safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in diverse healthcare settings within the Health Care and Social Assistance industry.
  • Additional certifications related to clinical education or specialized medical procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with patients and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with advanced clinical software and patient management systems.
  • Bilingual abilities to support a diverse patient population.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform clinical tasks including taking patient histories, measuring vital signs, and preparing patients for examinations.
  • Assist healthcare providers during medical procedures and examinations, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are ready and sterile.
  • Manage needle safety and disposal in compliance with healthcare regulations to prevent injury and contamination.
  • Conduct client needs assessments to support personalized patient care and facilitate appropriate clinical consultations.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, ensuring compliance with healthcare documentation standards.
  • Coordinate patient flow and appointment scheduling to optimize clinic efficiency.
  • Participate in ongoing clinical education to stay current with industry best practices and certification requirements.

Skills:

The required skills such as needle safety and disposal are essential for maintaining a safe clinical environment and preventing occupational hazards. Client needs assessment skills enable the CMA to accurately identify patient requirements and support tailored healthcare delivery. Industry-specific certifications ensure the CMA is knowledgeable about current healthcare standards and practices, which is critical for compliance and quality care. Clinical education and consultation skills are applied daily to assist healthcare providers effectively and to educate patients about their care plans. Preferred skills like advanced communication and bilingual abilities enhance patient interactions and improve overall service delivery in a diverse healthcare setting.
