Job Description Glide School District is seeking a dynamic School Bus Driver. The position is 5 hours per day on a four‑day school week (Monday through Thursday). FTE: .5 Work Calendar: 152 days FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt Reports to: Transportation Supervisor Classification: Classified Evaluation Rubric: Classified Start Date: August 26, 2026 Pay range: $20.86 – $24.21 per hour Benefits Glide School District participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP). Upon eligibility, the district contributes 6% of an employee’s salary to their Individual Account Program (IAP). Responsibilities Follow and maintain knowledge of all applicable district and department policies and procedures. Drive school buses or district pupil‑transporting vehicles on regular routes, field trips, and approved trips, including vehicles equipped for wheelchairs and other special needs. Transport students with special needs within and outside the district. Maintain confidentiality regarding students being transported. Obey all traffic laws and observe state standards and regulations regarding student transportation, including defensive driving techniques. Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of state and local laws and regulations pertaining to vehicle operation. Know the location, operation, purpose, and use of all vehicle controls, instruments, gauges, and emergency equipment. Possess the necessary physical and mental skills to operate the vehicle safely and efficiently as required by the certified training officer. Understand district regulations concerning student management, discipline, and public relations. Be familiar with routes assigned. Exercise sound judgment in varying weather, road, and traffic conditions. Operate and service high‑school bus equipment and accessories (doors, windows, radios, fire extinguishers, warning kits, tire chains, first aid kits, seat belt cutter). Coordinate with other districts and parents regarding daily route schedules and school operations. Plan and develop route changes as necessary. Follow accident/emergency procedures, handling emergencies including first aid. Maintain trip mileage, passenger, and stop records as directed. Manage students efficiently, maintaining safety and order; report undisciplined students to the appropriate administrator. Keep bus exterior and interior clean; check for mechanical defects before operation; notify supervisor of failures. Pick up and discharge students only at authorized stops; transport only students on the route list or with a bus pass. Report all accidents and complete required reports accurately and promptly. Report incidents requiring attention to the transportation coordinator on the appropriate district form. Work collaboratively with administrators and other transportation staff to provide reliable service. Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information as required by law. Interact thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, administrators, and parents; resolve conflict professionally. Communicate clearly with coworkers and other staff. Dress professionally for the position. Provide impeccable customer service. Appropriately maintain and secure confidential records and inquiries. Represent the school and district professionally in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students. Maintain required certifications and training hours. Attend work daily as assigned and be punctual. Adhere to the daily schedule. Specialized Duties and Responsibilities Completes and implements training as needed regarding special needs of students, demonstrating sensitivity to those students. Qualifications Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required. Interpersonal Skills: Calm interaction with students; concentration and patience in noisy and distracting conditions. Desire to work with students and understand their handicapping conditions. Language Skills: Fluent oral and written English; basic telephone and office skills. Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic math functions. Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense to write and follow instructions; solve problems involving several variables. Technology Skills: Basic computer skills, email communication, and data entry. Other Skills and Abilities: Good judgment, ability to work amid constant distractions, use of district technology. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Oregon driver’s license (Class A preferred), First Aid/CPR card, Oregon School Bus Drivers Certificate. Must obtain and maintain Class A (or B) license. Physical Demands Employee must regularly talk or hear; walk; use hands for fine manipulation; reach with hands and arms; sit for prolonged periods; occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. May assist physically impaired students onboard. Must demonstrate strength and agility for emergency evacuation. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, focus adjustment, depth perception, peripheral vision. Work Environment Typically moderate; occasional high depending on student population and activities. May be exposed to wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather, and blood‑borne pathogens. Workplace Expectations Regular attendance; punctuality; meet deadlines. Exercise honesty and ethical behavior in all interactions. Dress and groom in a neat, clean, professional manner. Maintain integrity of confidential information. Follow district or supervisor policies, rules, regulations, memos, bulletins, and announcements.
