Job Description

Days/Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Note - This is a 1.0 FTE position and will require travel between schools. All special education staff must be Right Response certified. (2 Positions Available)

Overview :


The Occupational Therapist provides services to students with disabilities to support their access to education. The therapist evaluates, plans, and implements individualized interventions that enhance students' functional mobility, fine motor skills, and participation in the school environment. The role requires collaboration with educators, families, and other service providers to promote student success.

Key Responsibilities:

Meaningful Relationships:

• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, and parents
• Collaborates with staff members and parents in maintaining a positive climate during meetings and/or conferences
• Serves as a liaison between the schools and consulting clinical therapists, therapists, and/or other health officials/agencies
• Consults with appropriate persons concerning the educational environment and factors affecting students' learning; serves as a resource at the school level as well as within the community

Engaged Learners

• Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
• Ability to plan and implement lessons based on department and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned
• Ability to recognize students' current abilities and build a strength-based program
• Ability to develop instructional goals to account for individual student needs
• Demonstrate knowledge of state and national standards
• Implement therapy programs and maintain data collection system
• Assists in the interpretation of criteria for determination of eligibility
• Participates in eligibility meetings, IEP meetings, and staffings, as needed

• Ability to organize ideas, time, and materials to accomplish goals
• Follows federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies regarding children's educational welfare
• Assesses occupational therapy and educational needs of referred students and consults with appropriate professional persons regarding implications and results
• Maintains accurate records of all occupational therapy services provided
• Maintains licensure at the state and/or national level; assumes responsibility for professional growth and keeps materials, supplies, and skills up to date

Community Connections

• Prepares and conducts assessment reports and other administrative documents as necessary
• Assists with the development and provision of in-service programs, child development, special education, and other related areas
• Attends workshops/seminars/professional meetings to remain informed of new developments and literature in school occupational therapy
• Interprets and upholds School Board policy and special education procedures
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities

Salary:

180 Base Salary = $62,462.04 - $121,525.75

4 Professional Days = $1,388.05 - $2,700.57

Benefits: State allocation towards dental, vision, medical insurance, retirement, 12 sick leave days, 3 personal leave days.

Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
