Under general supervision of the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) Education and Operations Manager, initiate, plan and implement Early Education programs for children aged three months to five years old. Maintain program quality, adhering to Title 22 State Licensing standards, developmental profiles and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Accreditation Standards. Plan and develop age appropriate activities in daily curriculum areas such as: language, art, dramatic play, multicultural and social justice awareness, manipulative toys, arts and crafts, block play, problem solving, science, nutrition and outdoor play. Observe, document, assess and complete developmental profile of children's overall growth and development using the Early Years Learning Framework or equivalent assessment tool. Supervise small and large groups of children in a variety of ages, and plan and set-up developmentally appropriate activities for both indoor and outdoor environments. Constantly monitor safety factors and required adult-child ratios and correct as needed. Create and maintain a warm and positive learning environment which is inclusive and promotes mutual respect. Acknowledge and respect the integrity of each child and encourage the development of positive self-image to allow the child to comfortably and successfully explore and learn. Ensure that children are within sight and sound of qualified classroom teachers at all times including when toileting. Assist children with hygiene (washing, diapering, toileting) and monitor the health needs of children taking appropriate corrective action as necessary. Maintain awareness of children’s individual dietary needs and communicate pertinent information in regard to allergies and special needs to all staff. Ensure that all adult and child working areas are safe, sanitary and orderly; repair and stock materials when needed. Follow established health & safety procedures for handling emergencies as outlined in the ECEC Employee Handbook. Provide input to performance evaluations based on ongoing observation throughout the year. Share examples of employee contributions, strengths, and weaknesses in relation to successful classroom practice. Meet with classroom team weekly to reflect on the learning process and meet children’s needs. Train and assign work to new and continuing employees. Provide guidance on performance standards and expectations. Foster positive relationships which promote social emotional competence in infants and young children. Ensure data collection is conducted in accordance with local, state and federal requirements for an early childhood classroom and maintain compliance in record keeping for related programs such as: National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Interact with parents daily; give brief reports of child's experience in pertinent areas. Conduct parent orientation to familiarize parents with the goals, philosophy and day-to-day operations of the center. Schedule and conduct regular parent-teacher conferences to maintain open communication and rapport with parents. May be assigned rotating shifts such as: 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Qualifications Must possess and maintain the Child Development Teacher Permit or above from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Must also show proof of completion of three college level units in Infant/Toddler coursework. Demonstrated experience planning and supervising a challenging developmental and instructional program for appropriate age groups for children ages 3 months to Kindergarten. Knowledge of and experience working within federal and state health safety regulations applicable to a child development facility. Demonstrated experience leading and directing teachers, student assistants and substitutes in an early childhood classroom with the ability to train teaching staff through role modeling and verbal expression; including good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Experience assisting children with hygiene (washing, diapering, toileting) and ability to take appropriate corrective action for a sick child as necessary. Knowledge of various emergency response procedures. Ability to act quickly, calmly and appropriately in hazardous situations. Experience in developing and implementing curriculum for children aged three months to five years. Current knowledge of Child Development theory and best practices in early Childhood group care education settings in order to provide a supportive, nurturing and growth-oriented environment for learning. Experience collecting data in accordance with local, state and federal requirements for an early childhood classroom and to maintain compliance in record keeping for related programs e,g.: National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Experience using the Early Years Learning Framework Assessment Tool and completing classroom and children portfolios. Experience preparing indoor and outdoor lesson plans using Early Years Learning Framework assessment tools and results and the CDE Preschool and Infant Framework and Learning Foundations. Ability to reflect on assessment outcomes and environmental rating scale results in order to complete the annual developmental profiles. Ability to use various computer programs to complete and record developmental assessments, communicate with parents, enhance curriculum and complete individual and classroom portfolios. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with and be sensitive to a culturally diverse community. Experience creating successful partnerships and communicating with parents, children, teachers and community representatives in providing a quality development and education program. Ability to work with and be sensitive to a culturally diverse community inclusive of all children and families. Ability to speak, read and write English to be understood by young children. Ability to remain focused, organized and self-paced. Ability to work with a variety of age-groups and flexibility to rotate through different classrooms as needed. Must satisfy the requirement for a "Fully Qualified Teacher" within the applicable infant and/or preschool child category as defined by the Department of Social Service in Title 22. Ability to model and advocate UCSD Principles of Community. Demonstrates competency and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Special Conditions Must possess and maintain current First Aid/CPR Certification showing satisfactory completion of pediatric first-aid training, including managing a blocked airway and providing rescue breathing for infants and children. Must possess and maintain current TB Clearance and Health Screening Report. Must possess and maintain current immunization record to include evidence of current immunization for influenza, pertussis and measles. FBI/Dept. of Justice Livescan background check and clearance with associate through Community Care Licensing required prior to hire. Physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds as necessary. This position meets the requirements for a mandated reporter under CANRA. Certificate for 7 hours of training in Preventive Health Practices for Childcare Providers. EMSA Training Certificate required. Education/Permit Requirement Must possess and maintain the Child Development Teacher Permit level credential or above from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Must show proof of completion of three college level units of Infant/Toddler coursework OR enroll in coursework that would meet this requirement within 4 months of hire and successfully earn those credits within 12 months of hire. Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $49,674 - $70,366 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $23.79 - $33.70 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
