Job Summary  

The Mine Truck Driver is responsible for operating and maintaining tractor trailer trucks used to transport clay, shale, and other raw materials from mine stockpiles to designated plant or processing areas. This position supports continuous production by ensuring a reliable supply of raw materials while operating the truck safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies, MSHA regulations, and environmental requirements. The Mine Truck Driver may also operate a water truck to control dust on mine roads and other designated areas. This position works closely with mine personnel, production, and maintenance teams to maintain safe and efficient mining operations. 

Essential Job Functions  

• Ability to operate equipment in order to load dump truck.
• Operate tractor trailer trucks to safely transport clay, shale, and other raw materials from mine stockpiles to designated plant or processing areas. 

• Operate a water truck, as assigned, to control dust on mine roads and other designated areas. 

• Safely load, transport, and dump raw materials in designated locations according to operational requirements. 

• Operate assigned trucks efficiently to maintain a consistent supply of raw materials while minimizing material loss, delays, and equipment downtime. 

• Work with mine personnel to ensure safe and efficient material movement throughout the mining operation. 

• Maintain awareness of other vehicles, mobile equipment, personnel, road conditions, stockpiles, dumping areas, and other potential hazards while operating assigned trucks. 

• Perform pre-operational inspections and routine equipment checks before operating assigned trucks. 

• Perform basic preventive maintenance, including lubrication, fluid checks, cleaning, and other routine maintenance activities as assigned. 

• Fuel assigned trucks using established fueling procedures and maintain equipment in a clean and serviceable condition. 

• Perform general housekeeping duties in and around assigned trucks and work areas. 

• Report equipment malfunctions, abnormal operating conditions, defects, or repair needs to the Mine Superintendent or Maintenance Department. 

• Maintain accurate records of equipment inspections, operating hours, maintenance activities, and material movement as required. 

• Follow all company safety policies, MSHA regulations, environmental requirements, traffic rules, and established operating procedures. 

• Report unsafe conditions, spills, equipment damage, environmental concerns, incidents, or injuries immediately. 

• Maintain regular and reliable attendance. 

• Perform other duties as assigned by supervision or management. 

Physical Requirements  

• Ability to sit for extended periods while safely operating a tractor trailer truck or water truck. 

• Frequently operate steering controls, hand controls, foot pedals, switches, and other vehicle controls with precision. 

• Ability to safely enter and exit trucks and equipment by climbing steps while maintaining three points of contact. 

• Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate vehicle controls, switches, levers, gauges, and communication equipment. 

• Frequent reaching, gripping, grasping, pushing, and pulling while operating trucks and performing inspections. 

• Ability to frequently turn, twist, and rotate the head, neck, and upper body to maintain awareness of surroundings while driving, backing, loading, and dumping. 

• Ability to use near and distance vision to safely monitor truck operation, road conditions, personnel, vehicles, stockpiles, loading areas, and dumping locations. 

• Ability to hear equipment alarms, backup alarms, radios, warning signals, and verbal communication in a mining environment. 

• Ability to frequently climb on and off assigned trucks and equipment, including in areas with uneven terrain. 

• Ability to walk on uneven terrain while accessing trucks, equipment, stockpiles, fueling areas, and other mine work areas. 

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching while performing inspections, housekeeping, fueling, and routine maintenance. 

• Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull tools, hoses, parts, and other materials associated with truck inspection and maintenance. 

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally with assistance when necessary. 

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around dust, dirt, mud, and moving vehicles and equipment. 

• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, and any additional PPE required for assigned tasks. 

Work Environment  

• Industrial mining and manufacturing environment. 

• Work is performed primarily outdoors with exposure to changing weather conditions. 

• Exposure to dust, dirt, mud, vibration, noise, moving vehicles and equipment, and uneven terrain. 

• Exposure to elevated temperatures, cold weather, rain, and humidity. 

• Work involves frequent travel on mine roads, which may include uneven, unpaved, muddy, or changing road conditions. 

• Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, and any additional PPE required for assigned tasks. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities  

• Ability to safely operate tractor trailer trucks and water trucks in a mining environment. 

• Basic mechanical aptitude to perform routine truck inspections and preventive maintenance. 

• Ability to read and understand work instructions, inspection forms, safety procedures, warning signs, and other required documentation. 

• Ability to recognize and report equipment problems, unsafe road or operating conditions, safety hazards, and environmental concerns. 

• Ability to safely maneuver, back, position, and dump a tractor trailer truck in designated areas. 

• Ability to maintain situational awareness and safely operate around pedestrians, mobile equipment, stockpiles, loading areas, and other mine traffic. 

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers. 

• Ability to maintain attention to safety, production, and operational requirements. 

Education and Experience  

• High school diploma or GED preferred. 

• Previous experience operating tractor trailer trucks, water trucks, or similar trucks in a mining, quarry, construction, or industrial environment preferred. 
• Previous experience operating heavy equipment such as bulldozer, and front end loaders.

• Valid driver's license and any additional license or certification required for the assigned vehicle or operation. 

• Must be able to successfully complete all required MSHA training. 

• Must be able to successfully complete all company-required truck and equipment-specific training before operating assigned trucks independently. 

Schedule  

Day Shift: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM 

Schedules are subject to change based on production and operational needs. 

Must be available to work Saturdays during busy seasons or as required to meet production demands. 

May be required to work weekends, holidays, or overtime based on operational needs. 

Safety Requirements  

• Must follow all company safety policies and procedures. 

• Must comply with all applicable Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) regulations. 

• Must successfully complete all required MSHA training and maintain any required refresher training. 

• Must successfully complete all company-required truck and equipment-specific training before operating assigned trucks independently. 

• Must complete required pre-operational inspections before operating assigned trucks. 

• Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing job duties. 

• Must safely operate assigned trucks and equipment in accordance with company policies, established operating procedures, and applicable safety requirements. 

• Must maintain awareness of personnel, vehicles, equipment, road conditions, and other hazards while driving, backing, loading, or dumping. 

• Must follow all company requirements regarding cellphone and electronic device use while operating a truck. 

• Must immediately report unsafe conditions, environmental concerns, equipment malfunctions, incidents, injuries, or equipment damage. 

• Participate in required safety meetings and training.
