Medical Laboratory Scientist - Oncology

Scope of Position: The Clinical Lab Professional 2 will provide primary support to the James Stat Laboratory and secondary support to ancillary James laboratory locations as needed. The laboratory provides comprehensive, time‑sensitive services to patients with a variety of diagnoses or admission/discharge criteria. The staff performs testing on patient specimens utilizing chemistry, immunochemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation and assists with bone marrow procedures. The laboratory also provides training for residents, new staff and medical technology students and operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Position Summary: The medical laboratory technologist performs routine automated and manual procedures, verifies and reports test requests and results, handles phone inquiries regarding patient results, specimen collection and testing frequency, calls critical values to healthcare professionals, documents quality control, quality assurance and preventive maintenance on instrumentation, and works under the direction of the lab manager and lead technologist(s). Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution OR Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology AND Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science.
