Security Guard II Agency: 025 OKLAHOMA MILITARY DEPARTMENT, Supervisory Organization: Oklahoma Military Department. Job Details Type: Regular Full time, Continuous appointment. Compensation: $38,072.00 annually. Basic Purpose Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving law enforcement duties at a state agency, institution or facility. This will include conducting patrols in an assigned area or location to enforce laws and rules and provide protection for individuals and property within the assigned area of responsibility. Typical Functions Patrol an assigned area to eliminate hazards, vandalism or other criminal activity; provide protection for individuals and property. May carry firearms and be required to use force to enforce security, apprehend suspects, or protect lives. Direct traffic in an assigned area and control traffic entering and leaving parking areas; enforce parking and traffic laws and issue citations or make arrests as appropriate. Direct police, fire and other emergency vehicles; provide assistance to authorities in handling or investigating traffic accidents, fires, vandalism, and other emergency situations. Greets visitors, answers inquiries, and relays messages concerning business and personal matters. Provide supervision or direction to assigned staff; prepare and maintain necessary records and reports. Plan and direct law enforcement programs; coordinate activities within assigned areas of responsibility. Level Descriptor This is the leadership level where employees supervise others in performing police and security work. Responsibilities include scheduling employees for duty, making visits to assigned posts to review operations, developing and conducting training, and otherwise planning and controlling the operations of an assigned unit or shift. Education and Experience Two years and six months of experience in security or law enforcement work or direct care of juveniles in a secure residential facility. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies (KSA) Required knowledge of routine police and security practices, state and federal laws, traffic control, investigative techniques, emergency response procedures, first aid, and supervisory principles. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, give clear directions, produce reports, maintain effective working relationships, evaluate emergency situations, react quickly, perform advanced level policing, and supervise the work of others. Special Requirements Willing and able to complete all job-related travel normally associated with the position. Complete the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training course within twelve months of employment or have previously completed this training. Successfully complete a National Agency check for obtaining a security clearance. Maintain a physical fitness standard sufficient for the duties of the position. Possess a valid Oklahoma Driver License at the time of employment. Applicants must be willing and able to work overtime and on shifts (positions within the Office of Juvenile Affairs). Employees must stand and walk for prolonged periods and physically restrain residents using approved restraint techniques. Applicants must be able to lift 50 pounds. Employees must pass all training requirements for sole supervision of residents (first aid certification, CPR and restraint training). Some positions may require education or experience in a specified field of law enforcement; some agencies may determine positions in this job family to be safety sensitive as defined by 63 O.S. § 427.8.
