Description

American Traveler is seeking a NICU Respiratory Therapist with 3-4+ years of Level III NICU experience and therapeutic cooling expertise for a 13-week travel assignment.

Details

• Level III NICU setting caring for super high-acuity, critically ill neonates
• Manages premature and extremely low-birth-weight infants requiring advanced respiratory support
• Provides therapeutic hypothermia/cooling support for eligible neonates
• Handles invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, including conventional and high-frequency ventilation (HFOV/HFJV)
• Manages CPAP, BiPAP/NIPPV, high-flow nasal cannula, and oxygen therapy
• Assists with intubation, extubation, airway management, and emergency stabilization
• Participates in neonatal resuscitation and high-risk deliveries
• Night shift hours from 18:30 to 07:00
• 13-week assignment length

Requirements

• RRT credential preferred/required
• Active Respiratory Therapist license as required by the state (License required if applicable)
• BLS, PALS, and ACLS certifications required (must be AHA)
• NRP certification required
• Minimum 3-4 years of recent Level III NICU experience required
• Strong experience with high-acuity and critically ill neonates
• Therapeutic cooling experience required
• Experience with premature and extremely low-birth-weight infants
• Ability to independently manage complex neonatal respiratory patients
• Skilled in obtaining and interpreting arterial, capillary, and venous blood gases
• Experience assisting with surfactant administration
• Current license and primary source verification required within 30 days prior to assignment start

Additional Information

• Administer respiratory medications, aerosol treatments, and oxygen therapy as ordered
• Adjust respiratory support based on patient condition, blood gases, and provider orders
• Recognize and respond rapidly to respiratory deterioration and neonatal emergencies
• Maintain and troubleshoot ventilators, respiratory equipment, and airway devices
• Collaborate closely with neonatologists, NICU nurses, and the multidisciplinary care team
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of respiratory treatments and patient responses
• Previous travel experience preferred, though first-time travelers may be considered
• Radius rule applies; local candidates may be considered at a reduced rate depending on distance from facility
• COVID vaccination is not required
