QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's Degree in social work or a related field preferred. Associate's Degree or equivalent years of residential experience required. Licensure: None required. Valid Ohio LPC, LPCC, LSW, or LISW preferred. Skills: Strong clinical skills including expertise in systemic family therapy, crisis intervention, family education, behavioral interventions, group work and substance abuse therapy. Demonstrated supervisory skills. Ability to perform job responsibilities with a high degree of initiative and independent judgment. Core Expertise: Possesses skill, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential duties of their role; keeps knowledge up to date. Cultural Competency: Demonstrates awareness, sensitivity and skills in working professionally with diverse individuals, groups and communities who represent various cultural and personal background and characteristics. Experience: 2-3 years working with Seriously Emotionally Disturbed (SED) children and/or children with behavior problems and their families. 1-2 years supervisory/management experience in a residential treatment, social service, or mental health setting. Other: Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets the underwriting criteria of the Agency’s insurance company. Must be approved by Applewood to transport clients in own vehicle.

AGENCY SUMMARY

Applewood Centers is a private, nonprofit agency providing mental health services, social services and education to children, adolescents and families living in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. Dedicated to addressing a variety of behavioral, emotional and learning problems, we provide a continuum of care from outpatient counseling to residential treatment.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, the Cottage Supervisor provides oversight of programming, leadership, case management, and supervision of all activities and program staff (Treatment Specialists) assigned to a Residential Treatment Program. The Cottage Supervisor ensures that the residential milieu is functioning consistent with state licensure, national accreditation, crisis intervention training, best practices for trauma informed residential care and the individual service plan (ISP) of the client.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Teach and role model program structure, routines, expectations and appropriate interventions for Treatment Specialists. Implement, monitor and manage level groups, goal groups, point store, and tracks allowance. Complete documentation requirements per agency standards and education and licensure as assigned including ISP development, MUI, non-billable progress notes and ICMP’s. Conduct, supervise and document mediation between clients. Ensure completion of all program documents including shift reports, floor plans, shared room contracts, monthly personal care progress notes, outing supervision forms, bedtime logs, milieu progress notes. Responsible for reviewing incident reports and completing incident notification process. Develop and implement separation and safety plans as needed. Demonstrate responsibility for the management, leadership and supervision of the program and direct care staff. Responsible for on‑call duties as assigned. Responsible for carrying, answering and maintaining agency cell phone. Complete Supervisor On Call Logs as assigned. Provide emergency crisis management/intervention including coverage assistance as needed. Manage the schedule, record all schedule changes, late arrivals etc. in a timely manner. Coordinate and oversee implementation of daily programming (milieu, group, and individual) in conjunction with program supervisors, therapists, and partial hospitalization staff. Work to ensure milieu programming is complementary to the ISP. Facilitate performance improvement actions in a reasonable time that are progressively corrective in nature, as assigned. Monitor and assist with coordination of schedules that provide safe coverage of the program and that are realistic and workable to the staff. Responsible for managing day to day operations in the absence of the Program Supervisor under the guidance of Division Director of Residential Services. Complete Individual Supervision Logs with direct care staff as assigned/needed and report staff concerns/issues to the Program Supervisor. Assist the Program Supervisor in the development and implementation of the Development Action Plans. Provide relevant input/feedback to the Program Supervisor for timely completion of evaluations. Establish staff assignments that benefit the functioning of the program, in collaboration with the Program Supervisor. This includes determining the appropriateness of staff placements in the designated department. Participate in or facilitate required staff training programs. Demonstrate knowledge and application of the policies and practices delineated in the Personnel Policy Manual. Contribute to the establishment of programs/systems/practices/procedures for commending staff for exemplary job performance. Attend and participate in clinical rounds, residential reviews, program meetings, staff meetings, committees as assigned and expected. Actively exhibit teamwork and professionalism by example and actions in all areas of management, including client-family contacts, collaboration with others, communication, and relationships with external stakeholders. This is evidenced through the level of cooperation, ownership and facilitation exhibited in how the unit/program functions in itself, as well as with its interactions with other departments in the agency. Provide consultation and education to staff and provide input for Team Meeting agendas. Maintain a flexible schedule that allows availability to administration and staff. Monitor the process whereby all basic needs of children/youth are consistently met (medical, dental, dietary, clothing, safety, clients rights and education) and makes necessary adjustments when barriers or problems arise. Assist the Program Supervisor in development, implementation, monitoring and evaluating the quality of the program and campus safety/security. When necessary, effectively performs the duties of a Treatment Specialist or Shift Supervisor.

OTHER DUTIES

Attend scheduled staff meetings, supervision, and on‑going trainings. All required trainings, certifications and licensure must be kept current in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards. Respect the privacy of clients and hold in confidence all information obtained during the client’s treatment. All client-related documents should be handled in accordance with Agency guidelines on confidential material. Assure that staff maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct and adhere to Agency policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned by management. Applewood Centers, Inc.
