On-site | Full-time About the role Sulzer's Los Angeles Service Center (LASC) repairs and overhauls centrifugal pumps for power generation, refining, water, and industrial customers across the Western U.S. We are looking for a hands‑on Pump Repair Mechanic to join our shop team and contribute to the disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly of API and industrial centrifugal pumps — including BB1 through BB5 multistage pumps, OH overhung pumps, and VS vertical pumps. You will work alongside experienced Shop Leads and Repair Coordinators, with direct support from Engineering and Sales, in a facility certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001. Key responsibilities Disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble centrifugal pumps (BB1–BB5, OH, VS configurations) per Sulzer repair procedures and customer specifications. Perform dimensional inspections of shafts, impellers, wear rings, bearing journals, casings, and other rotating equipment components using micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, and other precision instruments. Set up and execute hydrostatic tests, balance verifications, and clearance checks; document results in the inspection record. Coordinate scope confirmation and findings with the Repair Coordinator, Shop Lead, and assigned Sales Representative. Support customer Witness and Hold Points during the repair process. Follow Sulzer EHS standards, lockout/tagout, and quality procedures at all times; complete travelers, inspection reports, and time entries accurately. Maintain a clean, organized, and 5S-compliant workstation. Required qualifications Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience repairing rotating equipment, with direct experience on centrifugal pumps. Ability to read mechanical assembly drawings, bills of materials, and basic GD&T callouts. Proficient with precision measuring tools (micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, depth gauges). Working knowledge of mechanical seals, sleeve and anti-friction bearings, couplings, and fits and clearances. Comfortable operating overhead cranes and shop forklifts (or able to be certified upon hire). Strong attention to detail and discipline in documenting inspection findings and repair work. High school diploma, GED, or technical/vocational equivalent. Authorized to work in the U.S. Preferred qualifications Experience with multistage BB3, BB4, or BB5 pumps, including cartridge‑style pull‑out designs. Experience with vertical turbine (VS) pumps and long line shaft assemblies. Familiarity with API 610 and API 682 standards.
