Position Overview

We are seeking a highly analytical, people-first, and systems-minded Engineering Manager to lead our core centralized Observability, Monitoring, and Integrations squad within the flagship Monetization sub-department, operating in a full-time 100% remote capacity anywhere in India. In this critical operational leadership seat, you will step up to claim true individual strategic and organizational accountability for hiring, developing, and leading a premier software engineering pod focused on the reliability, availability, and data quality of systems directly impacting GitLab’s corporate revenue and customer buyer journeys. Shifting completely away from routine layout updates, basic feature script testing, or passive administrative task routing, you will operate as a principal platform architect—partnering cross-functionally face-to-face with Product Management, Finance, Billing operations, Corporate IT, and Support Engineering teams. This position requires an enterprise tech or ecommerce engineering veteran who orchestrates continuous system integrations fluidly natively using DevOps pipelines, diagnoses data model variances smoothly natively using Backend code blocks, and commands automated telemetry environments confidently under operationally rigorous deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

• Monetization Observability and Telemetry Architecture: Architect, implement, and maintain end-to-end system telemetry and modern real-time monitoring across core purchasing surfaces including CustomersDot, Salesforce configurations, and Zuora billing platforms cleanly natively utilizing DevOps guidelines.
• Automated Billing Anomaly Diagnostics: Build and deploy machine-learning tools and automated analytics guardrails to instantly identify cross-platform transactional discrepancies, event drops, processing pauses, and abuse spikes that impact financial reconciliation natively leveraging Backend code rules.
• Durable Enterprise Integration Management: Define and execute the integration roadmap linking customer-facing monetization services with internal enterprise applications like Salesforce and Workato, ensuring rigid, durable API contracts and zero-fault financial data quality.
• AI-Native Engineering Leadership: Drive and model an advanced, AI-forward development culture within your engineering unit, ensuring team members systematically utilize automated code checkers and AI-enabled infrastructure tools to uncover system anomalies and optimize deployment planning.
• Fulfillment Engineering Strategy and Tradeoffs: Guide deep architecture and implementation reviews, helping the engineering team balance sound technical trade-offs across application reliability, data model scalability, and developer ergonomics.
• Incident Management Framework Governance: Establish, document, and iterate robust incident triage practices, writing comprehensive runbooks, setting strict Service Level Indicators (SLIs), and tracking Service Level Targets (SLTs) across financially critical workflows.
• Asynchronous Team Scaling and Mentorship: Hire, build, and develop a values-aligned engineering team from the ground up, conducting recursive code mentorship, setting explicit expectations for ownership, and managing regional asynchronous workflows in compliance with the GitLab Fulfillment Handbook.
• Cross-Functional Stakeholder Alignment: Partner in lockstep with distributed Product, GTM, Corporate Finance, and Customer Support pods to coordinate high-impact modifications to pricing, billing, provisioning, and subscription platforms with absolute transparency.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Demonstrated professional history running advanced software engineering management, distributed platform delivery direction, enterprise ecommerce systems programming, billing infrastructure governance, or technical DevOps consulting.
• Mandatory Monetization Domain Experience: Proven, hands-on history leading, developing, or managing engineers explicitly within purchasing, billing, automated provisioning, subscription management, commerce, or other direct revenue-impacting transactional software systems.
• Expert-tier capability configuring continuous deployment loops, managing multi-platform automation steps, and scaling transaction telemetry natively utilizing DevOps parameters.
• Practical operational familiarity parsing distributed code arrays, evaluating data model schemas, and auditing general ledger tracking logic natively using Backend microservices.
• Deep, authoritative technical command of modern observability-first frameworks, requiring functional command of tools including Prometheus, Grafana, and modern cloud incident management registries.
• Proven background establishing service level matrices, authoring technical runbooks, and leading system incident response efforts inside high-volume regulated environments.
• Outstanding written communication and collaboration attributes in fluent English, showing an absolute comfort operating within a highly visible, asynchronous, handbook-first remote corporate setup.
• Sound professional judgment handling highly confidential corporate financial datasets and customer-facing billing incidents without compromising legal limits.
• Location Context: Position open exclusively to qualified technical engineering managers based permanently and resident within the borders of India to operate under a 100% remote work-from-home layout.
