Hospital Medicine APP (Part-Time/Per Diem) – RWJBarnabas Health, Rahway

The Hospitalist Medicine APP will deliver primary health care in the Inpatient setting to include, but not limited to, the recognition and management of common illnesses and injuries, and the provisioning of care across the health care continuum with emphasis on early detection, treatment, and prevention of diseases.

We are seeking a dedicated Night Shift Hospitalist APP to manage overnight clinical workflows from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM at our Rahway location. Working alongside an in-house Physician, responsibilities include evaluating and admitting patients from the Emergency Department, responding to nursing concerns, and managing acute clinical issues that arise overnight. The role independently handles up to 9 admissions per shift.

The ideal candidate is a reliable clinician with a reasonable commute to Rahway and flexible availability for night shifts. We are looking for someone currently in an admitting Hospitalist role or a recent graduate with strong, recent inpatient experience. Previous experience with EPIC is highly preferred. Candidates must be comfortable working independently to manage the shift's admissions and acute patient needs.

Essential functions include obtaining and recording patient history, performing physical and medical screening examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic and therapeutic studies, coordinating patient care with other members of the health care team, instructing and counseling patients regarding mental and physical health, completing charting in a thorough and timely manner, adequately managing patient flow in the inpatient unit with emphasis on length of stay optimization, performing procedures as allowed by state law and under the direction of the supervising or collaborating physician, working within legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standards, actively participating in Department staff meetings and risk management education, and completing required courses, i.e. HIPAA, EMTALA and other CME/CEU requirements.

Job requirements include a Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies or Masters Degree in Nursing from an accredited program, Physician Assistant Certification or Registered Advanced Practice Nurse License from NJ State Board of Nursing, Registration & Licensure by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners, Physician Assistant Advisory required or Licensed Registered Nurse in state of New Jersey, Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support Certifications, NJ CDS and DEA Licensure.

Medical and broad based clinical hospitalist medicine knowledge, strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent time management skills, ability to effectively and successfully work with all hospital employees.
