EMS Physician, Clinical Faculty

The Division of EMS within the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine invites applications for an EMS Physician to join our clinical faculty, with a goal of a focus in research. This is a rare opportunity to help build and grow a well-established EMS division within a nationally recognized academic health system. You would provide high-quality emergency and prehospital care, and work directly with regional agencies to improve EMS care for patients in Charlottesville, the surrounding region, and across the Commonwealth of Virginia. This position is primarily clinical (0.85 FTE). The remaining effort (0.15 FTE) is dedicated to EMS program development and academic work. That includes medical oversight and support for regional EMS agencies, quality improvement, protocol development, education of EMS clinicians, and preparedness for mass casualty and critical incidents. The successful candidate will be committed to clinical excellence, to strengthening the prehospital-to-hospital continuum of care, and to partnering with the community to improve outcomes for the patients EMS serves. The EMS Physician will serve as core faculty for the Division's ACGME-accredited EMS Fellowship, helping train the next generation of EMS physician leaders. Candidates interested in contributing to the Division's growing EMS research program are encouraged to apply, whether they are experienced investigators or early in their scholarly careers. The Department supports this work with research mentorship, embedded data science support, and internal pilot funding. The EMS Physician reports directly to the Chief of the Division of EMS. They will work closely with regional EMS agencies, public safety and community partners, and Department of Emergency Medicine faculty, including the Vice Chair for Research and Innovation.
