Job Title: Flight Paramedic I - AirCare - Full-Time/ Part-Time Job Requisition ID: R00050257 Job Category: Allied Health Organization: AirCare Location/s: Main Campus Jackson Job Summary: To provide optimum critical/emergency care to sick or injured patients transported by aircraft or other vehicle to UMMC or other designated facility. Education & Experience: High School Diploma/GED and completion of an EMT-Paramedic program with three (3) years of related experience. Maximum weight limit of 250 pounds when fully clothed. (cannot exceed weight of 250 pounds fully clothed). Individual must be able to lift a patient weighing 250 pounds onto a stretcher and to carry said patient and stretcher for a minimum of fifty (50) feet and load patient and stretcher into a helicopter, or other vehicle, with the help of other provider. Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required: Certification as a nationally registered paramedic. MS Paramedic required within 2 weeks of hire. Certification as a critical care paramedic required within two (2) years of hire. Certifications in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, NIMS (ICS 100 and 700) and either BTLS or PHTLS or ITLS. Certification in neonatal resuscitation required within six (6) months of hire. Certification in ABLS and ASLS preferred. Certification in critical care emergency transport program and as a certified flight paramedic preferred, neonatal-pediatric transport or critical care paramedic preferred. Certification as a Louisiana NREMTP and Alabama NREMTP preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of the information and techniques to identify, diagnose and treat human injuries or diseases for adult, pediatric and neonatal patients. Knowledge of agents, equipment, procedures, and techniques for the provision of emergency and critical care for inter-facility and scene transports. Verbal and written communication skills. Ability to remain calm in emergency conditions. Ability to provide physical and psychological treatment and comfort to patients. Ability to withstand exposure to noise, external weather conditions, and work in high altitudes. Ability to maintain and comply with weight and lifting restrictions and requirements. Ability to fill shifts at Jackson UMMC campus or remote site as required. Responsibilities: Evaluates, plans, provides and documents care for patients in the disaster, transport, (air, ground) and/or the out of hospital environment. Provides physical and psychological comfort to patients, monitors patients condition during transport and adverse reactions to drugs of treatment. Interacts with pre-hospital and hospital personnel to ascertain the details surrounding the illness or injuries. Ensures the proper functioning and inventory of communications equipment, medical equipment and medical supplies. Reports equipment failures. Assists in maintaining, sterilizing and cleaning transport medical equipment to ensure the safety of patients in accordance with UMMC standards and protocols. Promotes a positive image of UMMC by participating in community outreach and educational programs. Assists in precepting and orienting colleagues and healthcare students. Ensures regulatory compliance of patient care provided during transport, prepares and maintains applicable reports and documentation.
