The System Director of Sterile Processing Practice and Professional Development oversees the orientation and ongoing professional development and competency management of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) staff across the MedStar health System. The System Director contributes to the design, alignment, and implementation of practice, education, and qualitystandards, guidelines and programs in the SPDs across the System.
Contributes to implementation of evidence-based and best practices in Sterile Processing and collaborates with entity-based staff and leaders in the SPD, Infection Prevention, Quality, and Perioperative Services to ultimately ensure completion, accuracy, quality, and safety of case carts. Acts as a clinical leader and teaches in orientation and ongoing in-service training courses; and, in doing so, demonstrates actions and behaviors that facilitate the process of change necessary to support the execution of the strategic plan of the Peri-operative Service Line.
Ensures high standards of processing of instruments, equipment and supplies, utilizing Infection Control guidelines, adherence toregulatory requirements, AORN standards, The Joint Commission, IAHCSMM (International Association of Hospital Central Service and Materials Management), industrial sterilization of medical devices and regulatory standards.

Primary Duties: * Develops and oversees department goals, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with MedStar Health standards and regulatory guidelines. Collaborates with system leaders to implement effective training programs. * Assesses SPD needs, develops action plans, and implements orientation, ongoing education, and competency management programs to enhance staff performance. Evaluates program effectiveness and adjusts as needed. * Aligns SPD functions across the system, ensuring proper sterilization, storage, and distribution of instruments and equipment. Monitors quality and safety outcomes, addressing workflow challenges and operational improvements. * Works with SPD leaders, surgeons, OR directors, and infection prevention teams to anticipate surgical needs, address supply shortages, and implement best practices to enhance sterile processing quality and efficiency. * Leads workflow improvements to reduce costs, minimize infection risks, and enhance service delivery. Tracks staff certifications and ensures compliance with internal policies and accreditation standards.
Qualifications: * A Master's degree in Health Administration or related field (required) * 5-7 years Job related experience- sterile processing (required) * Prior leadership and supervisory experience (required) * Prior training and education experience (required)

This position has a hiring range of $42.83 - $73.09
