Commercial Kitchen Equipment Repair Technician

Salary: Manual Trades MT7 261 Days Min. $22.11 Hourly

Primary Purpose

Provide installation, service, upgrade and maintenance of commercial kitchen equipment for the Child Nutrition (CN) Department. Repair the cooking, cleaning, hot holding, electrical and refrigeration equipment.

Assist in the delivery of food and non-food items for the department. Assist in the transfer of parts, equipment and supplies. Perform maintenance as needed and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Certification

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid Texas driver's license (Class C, Class B preferred)
• Texas State Journeyman Electrical License (preferred)
• Universal Refrigeration Certificate (required)
• Texas Air Conditioning and Refrigeration License (preferred)

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Knowledge of all types of food preparation equipment including but not limited to ranges, mixers, disposals, freezers, refrigerators, washers, steamers, ovens, hot/cold holding units, fryers, and serving lines
• Knowledge of numerous medium and low temp refrigerants as per industry standard
• Knowledge of plumbing, steam and electric trades and trade related tools, materials and application
• Knowledge of lock out/tag out procedures
• Knowledge of health and safety code requirements
• Knowledge of purchasing, record keeping, delivery, and inventory control procedures
• Skill in reading and understand repair manuals, invoice orders, and supply requisitions and other related documents
• Skill in repairing commercial grade kitchen equipment and operating hand tools and mechanical equipment
• Skill in operating truck/van
• Skill in the use of computer keyboard and computer
• Skill in basics mathematical calculations, data entry, and detailed numerical/clerical work
• Skill in processing service transactions with a high level of data accuracy
• Ability to prioritize tasks and coordinate multiple projects to meet specific deadlines
• Ability to maintain professional behavior, appearance, and work ethic to represent the school district in a positive manner at all times
• Ability to communicate effectively with tact and diplomacy and provide a high level of customer service to administrators, co-workers, and vendors.

Experience

• Two years experience in the commercial kitchen equipment repair, HVAC&R, or electrical services industry o Must have mechanical and electrical aptitude o Background in propane or natural gas fired equipment required
• Child Nutrition Department experience in a school district preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

1. Diagnose electrical problems using VOMs, infrared thermometers, amp probes, visual inspection, mega-ohm meters, circuit tracers, compound gauges, micron gauge and other devices as required.

2. Develop a comprehensive plan of action to repair problems, including material, parts and supply lists, working time lines along with any other resource requirements to complete the work in a timely fashion.

3. Help develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance program.

4. Inspect shipments for damage and defects. Sort and store items according to established procedures.

5. Drive truck to various locations to transfer materials. Obtain authorized signature for supplies requested.

6. Load and unload delivery truck by hand or by use of hand truck, pallet jack or forklift.

7. Operate tools, equipment and vehicles according to prescribed safety procedures.

8. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including electrical hazards, lifting, carrying, etc.

9. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

10. Detect needed repairs on vehicles and equipment by following established inspection procedures.

Other 1. Each employee may be required to be "on call" outside the normal shift to respond to after hour emergencies. Each employee participates on an assigned rotation schedule to be available for on call freezer/cooler monitoring to perform on-site repair while on rotation.
