Central Transfer Student Advisor and Writing Lab Coordinator

$40,000-$45,000 Depending on Qualifications Job Summary Central Advisors are proactive professionals who are sincere and passionate about assisting students with their transition to OPSU and helping them succeed in their academic journey. Central Advisors are responsible for working with concurrent, freshmen, sophomores, and transfer students (up to 60 credit hours). Responsibilities Demonstrate a genuine commitment to student success by providing proactive, student-centered academic advising. Advise concurrent, freshman, sophomore, and transfer students (up to 60 earned credit hours) regarding academic planning, degree requirements, and university policies. Assist students in selecting majors, developing academic plans, and identifying career pathways that align with their educational goals. Guide students through the enrollment process, including course registration, schedule changes, and academic planning for fall, spring, and summer terms. Monitor student progress toward degree completion using FlightPath, Banner, and other institutional systems. Develop individualized success plans for students experiencing academic challenges and connect them with appropriate campus resources. Collaborate with the Registrar's Office to evaluate transfer credit and determine course equivalencies utilizing the OSRHE Course Equivalency Project (CEP). Maintain accurate student records and advising documentation using designated university software. Build collaborative relationships with faculty advisors and facilitate timely referrals when students transition to faculty advising. Educate students regarding university policies, graduation requirements, academic regulations, and campus resources. Promote student engagement by encouraging class attendance, effective time management, and academic responsibility. Coordinate and present workshops related to advising, enrollment, transfer success, FlightPath, degree planning, and graduation requirements. Participate in New Student Orientation, transfer student programming, recruitment events, and retention initiatives. Develop expertise in university programs, services, and student support resources to effectively assist diverse student populations. Participate in professional development related to academic advising, student success technologies, and higher education best practices. Transcipt scribing into Banner as needed. Coordinate the daily operations of the Writing Center, ensuring accessible, high-quality academic writing support for all students. Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate peer writing tutors. Develop tutor training materials and provide ongoing professional development to promote effective tutoring practices. Provide individual and small-group writing consultations for students across all academic disciplines and writing levels. Assist students throughout the writing process, including brainstorming, organization, thesis development, revision, grammar, mechanics, and documentation styles such as APA and MLA. Develop and deliver workshops focused on writing, research, citation styles, grammar, and academic communication. Collaborate with faculty to support writing-intensive courses and integrate Writing Center services into the academic experience. Promote Writing Center services through outreach, classroom presentations, and campus programming to increase student utilization. Coordinate in-person and online writing support services and maintain scheduling systems and instructional resources. Collect, analyze, and report Writing Center usage data and student outcomes to assess effectiveness and guide continuous improvement. Develop and maintain Writing Center policies, procedures, and instructional materials. Collaborate with the Library, Academic Resource Center, faculty, and other student support offices to provide comprehensive academic support services. Support institutional retention, persistence, and student success initiatives through writing support and academic skill development. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Academic and Library Resources or designee.
