Medical/Surgical Nursing Position

Position Status: Part time

Shift: Third Shift (Nights – Less than 12 hours per shift) (United States of America)

Hours per week: 24

A Brief Overview: Medical/Surgical nursing is a specialty within the nursing profession that encompasses the care of individuals across the life span who present with physical, emotional, or psychological alterations of health. Medical/Surgical nursing is care of acute and chronic illnesses in nature and occurs in a variety of care settings. Medical/Surgical nursing encompasses care that ranges from cardiac, oncology, stroke, joint, spine, post-Surgical, palliative, psychiatric and end-of-life issues. It includes the care of patients greater than age 12 and all health conditions.

Education Qualifications:

• Bachelors of Science: Nursing (BSN) Preferred

Skills and Abilities:

• Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to rights of patient/significant other, as identified within the institution.
• Demonstrates awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution.
• Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and departmental functioning. Strives to manage situations in a manner, which minimizes risk to the patient and the institution.
• Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, non-verbal and written methods.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medication administration and equipment calibration. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Registered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted. Required
• Basic Life Support - BLS Must have within 90 days of hire.
• RQI, CPR or ACLS certifications may be required in lieu of or in addition to BLS depending on department.

• Implements identified plan through coordination of care and employs strategies to promote health and wellness.
• Evaluates progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes.
• Delivers professional nursing care guided by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring illustrated by creating caring relationships, taking time to have uninterrupted moments with patients and displaying unconditional acceptance and respect.
• Promotes a mutually respectful environment that encourages the exchange of ideas and supports the effectiveness of professional relationships and integrates ethics in all aspects of practice.
• Demonstrates advocacy in all roles and settings.
• Practices Diversity, Equity and Inclusion principles in their daily work by respecting others' uniqueness, perspectives, backgrounds or beliefs.
• Communicates effectively in all areas of professional practice.
