Packaging Engineer

Job Overview:
Search Solution Group is seeking a Packaging Engineer on behalf of our client, a global leader in the design, manufacture, and installation of laboratory, healthcare, and technical furniture. The Packaging Engineer is responsible for developing, testing, and implementing innovative packaging solutions that improve product protection, shipping efficiency, and operational performance. This role partners closely with manufacturing, operations, logistics, and engineering teams to optimize packaging processes using Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies while ensuring quality, safety, and cost objectives are achieved.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop cost-effective packaging solutions for a wide range of products.
• Evaluate packaging designs to ensure product protection, shipping performance, and regulatory compliance.
• Conduct testing and performance analysis on packaging materials and designs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, engineering, logistics, and product management.
• Research, evaluate, and source sustainable and cost-effective packaging materials.
• Create detailed packaging specifications and manufacturing documentation.
• Lead packaging improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement principles.
• Analyze packaging processes to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.
• Manage packaging-related projects, including planning, scheduling, and implementation.
• Resolve packaging and shipping issues through structured problem-solving methodologies.
• Support packaging equipment selection, process implementation, and operator training.
• Ensure packaging complies with applicable industry standards and regulations.

Requirements Include:
Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred), Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

Experience:

• 5+ years of experience supporting manufacturing operations in a factory environment.
• Experience designing and implementing packaging solutions for manufactured products.
• Proven experience leading packaging optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills:

• Packaging design and engineering expertise.
• Strong data analysis and problem-solving abilities.
• Project management and process improvement experience.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering documentation.

Certifications:

• Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certifications are a plus but not required.

Knowledge:

• Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen methodologies.
• Packaging materials, testing procedures, and shipping requirements.
• Continuous improvement tools including:
  • PFMEA
  • Pareto Analysis
  • Run Charts
  • 5 Whys
  • 8D Problem Solving
• Manufacturing processes and packaging operations.
• Industry packaging regulations and quality standards.
