This position supports our workers' compensation line of business, Eastern Alliance, and is a hybrid role, based out of Charlotte NC or Ridgeland MS. The primary responsibility of the Regional Underwriting Supervisor is to provide leadership to meet the Company's financial and operational goals to support the Company's business plan and objectives and to ensure execution of the defined strategic initiatives and operational objectives. The Underwriting Supervisor performs all the necessary duties to profitably and effectively supervise their assigned operations which include ensuring meaningful professional development plans for their team members and monitoring day-to-day execution of team member responsibilities in accordance with the Company's Underwriting Philosophy, business model, budget, policies, and procedures. This position is also responsible for underwriting a book of accounts as assigned and developing and cultivating strong relationships with our agency partners.

What you'll do:

• 30% - Within approved authority, analyze risks for new and renewal business in support of the company's underwriting objectives; make decisions in support of profitability about accepting, modifying, or declining all new and renewal business within the timelines set by regulatory and Company guidelines. Independently underwrite assigned accounts, including the review and analysis of financial statements. Assume lead underwriting responsibilities and/or management oversight for assigned Inova programs.
• 20% - Provide referral underwriting expertise for the unit, review/audit files to provide guidance and development on underwriting strategies.
• 15% - Provides guidance, support, and growth opportunities to line underwriters. Ensures that each team member has a meaningful professional development plan that supports the team member's career goals. Defines and manages the achievement of performance objectives for all direct reports; provides frequent feedback and meets with direct reports on a regular basis for meaningful coaching discussions on all aspects of the team member's performance and development. Regularly reviews underwriting authority of staff and makes recommendations for adjustments. Conducts meaningful annual performance reviews on a timely basis and makes salary adjustment recommendations in accordance with the Company's salary administration plan. Effectively manages the progressive discipline process, including potential termination of a team member, in collaboration with Human Resources and appropriate members of the management team.
• 15% - Cultivates and develop high quality internal and external working relationships by visiting and communicating with agents, policyholders, and other departments on a regular and timely basis as necessitated by business needs and company guidelines. Advocate Eastern as a carrier of choice, promoting products and services, and identifying new business opportunities, including alternative insurance programs in collaboration with the Inova team. Assists team members with planning and conducting agency visits and internal meetings.
• 5% - Reviews and takes appropriate action on monthly reports, performance metrics and results including File Reviews. Evaluates and reports monthly unit results, making recommendations and adjustments when necessary to meet objectives.
• 5% - Serves as a leader or participant on various task forces and projects; plans regular training programs to enhance technical and business skills of staff; communicates training opportunities to other departments and other duties as assigned. Identifies and coordinates external presentations that provide the Company with positive public relations.
• 5% - Facilities and creates a positive team environment within the unit and with other departments; runs regular unit meetings, attends monthly team/adverse account review meetings and or Inova meetings, as appropriate, to ensure effective communication between team members and disciplines.
• 5% - Champions return-to-wellness initiatives by working collaboratively with team members, agents, clients, claim representatives, and risk management consultants to deliver favorable outcomes. Ensure proper return-to-wellness guidelines are executed.

What we're looking for:

• Bachelor's degree in business, insurance, or related field and five years of progressive experience in underwriting or underwriting management is required. Prefer workers' compensation experience, CPCU, or advanced certification.
• Ability to attend insurance and industry/business functions to promote and present a positive image of the Company; ability to participate in presentations to potential clients/agents; ability to travel as necessitated by business needs.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer applications; ability to learn new computer software applications.
• Advanced analytical ability: ability to analyze and interpret information to make profitable decisions about risks.
• Attention to detail in processing information, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines.
• Solid analytical and problem-solving skills including formulating logical and objective conclusions; the ability to think strategically.
• Ability to analyze the competition, identify trends and make recommendations to remain competitive and profitable in the market.
• Ability to assess the urgency and importance of a situation and take appropriate action.
• Demonstrated leadership ability with sound technical skills, analytical and problem-solving ability, high ethical standards, good judgment, and ability to effectively supervise staff.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing with various constituencies and at all levels, internally and externally.

Position Salary Range

$87,599.00 - $144,553.00

The salary range displayed represents the entirety of the pay grade for this position. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have, your location and comparison to other team members already in this role.
