Position Purpose & Objectives A roofing installer is an entry-level employee responsible for working as part of a team to complete roofing work. Work will involve travel to customer location. Specific Duties, Functions & Responsibilities of the Job Work with crew to complete all aspects of jobs assigned by the company/foreman without dispute, including tear-off, repairs, installation and other jobs as assigned. Be prepared to learn any and all aspects of jobs assigned by the foreman as necessary for job completion. Responsible for jobsite cleanup, leaving everything as it was when you arrived Be on time for all shifts and ready to go at the assigned time with all personal tools and PPE. Complete every job correctly and entirely the first time Get along with your crew members and work as a team, not as an individual Assist in setup and tear down of safety equipment as instructed. Abide by all job-site safety requirements, including PPE, fall protection and others. Participate in training. Participate in weekly safety meetings. Attend all companywide training events. Participate in manufacturer system‑specific training. Participate in all other training as assigned. Deliver excellent quality and customer satisfaction. Make every effort to address customer needs and exceed expectations Learn to perform work according to company standards. Keep complete and accurate records, including timecards Keep a positive attitude Keep your foreman informed of any problems with your crew, equipment, job or vehicles Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Work Skills – Laborers/apprentices must exhibit basic skills necessary to work in roofing. Roof system installation – the ability to learn necessary skills and execute them correctly Attention to detail – the ability to pay attention to quality and safety with a goal of installing correctly and working safely, and a willingness to make improvements Language skills – ability to read, analyze and interpret work-related documents Safety and security – ability to observe safety and security procedures and use equipment and materials properly and effectively. Must follow OSHA safety standards. Productivity – ability to work quickly and accurately to meet productivity standards Cost consciousness – ability to contribute to profits and revenues and conserve company resources Leadership – able to exert informal leadership with individuals at all levels of a company as well as customers, vendors, manufacturers, suppliers and distributors Teamwork – ability to work with others to accomplish goals; balances team and individual responsibilities; gives and welcomes feedback. Must be able to work well with others and within a company system Qualifications Ability to work 8- to 12-hour shifts, weekdays and weekends (as needed) Self-motivated, reliable and dependable Quality and customer-service focused Willingness to learn Ability to work as part of a team and take direction as needed from jobsite supervisors Strong communication and social skills Basic math skills Must have reliable transportation Preferred High School Diploma or GED Valid Driver’s license CDL OSHA 10‑hour card/30‑hour card Suggested Tools Tool belt with nail pouch Shingle hatchet Utility knife with straight and hook blades 16-foot (or longer) tape measure Tin snips Safety glasses Appropriate footwear Physical Requirements These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Frequent bending, kneeling, twisting/turning, crouching, crawling Walking on a level surface, an uneven surface and sloped surface Ability to climb, work on and carry a ladder Comfortable working in high places Vision requirements: must be able to see close, distant, peripheral, depth Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time General knowledge of and ability to use power tools and hand tools Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 80 pounds Tolerant of noise and dust Willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions Position Purpose & Objectives The siding foreman is responsible for leading a siding crew to perform work safely and productively per specifications and to the standards of the company and customer, as well as: Provide leadership to a crew—fostering safety, teamwork and discipline—resulting in efficient and professional roofing installation Effectively manage labor, materials, equipment and administrative work Specific Duties, Functions & Responsibilities of the Job Lead a crew to install siding efficiently and safely. Provide regular coaching, training, evaluation and feedback Influence crew to work safely and be disciplined and efficient Examine projects to plan jobs, and strategically assign and allocate work to crew members, taking their desires, skills and temperaments into consideration Communicate and manage job‑specific safety plans prior to the start of every job, conducting job‑site audits and making alterations as conditions change Be an active participant or leader of weekly safety meetings Perform installation duties as necessary Meet production and quality goals Plan daily work goals to complete jobs on time, striking an appropriate balance between speed and quality Manage workflow of crew and subcontractors Ensure quality and installation according to specifications and plans Keep projects on budget Solve field application problems with a minimum amount of supervision, notifying supervisor when problems arise Know when customers have communicated specific concerns or requests and make every effort to honor their instructions Manage job sites, equipment and materials Maintain a jobsite that complies with all safety guidelines Enforce safety regulations with everyone on a job site, including visitors and customers Inspect safety equipment and PPE before use each day Ensure roofs are safe and watertight at the end of each day, materials and equipment are stored safely and a fire watch is in place if necessary Exhibit exemplary responsiveness and personal leadership with all field and office personnel Communicate regularly with supervisor regarding work, personnel, equipment, job or vehicle issues Record work performed daily Requisition materials and keep accurate materials and equipment reports Participate in operations and customer meetings as necessary Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Work skills – Foremen must exhibit basic communication and siding skills necessary to manage the complex task of siding installation. Language skills – able to read, interpret and write written instructions, work‑related documents and OSHA regulations in a professional manner. Communication – the ability to communicate effectively as required. Math – the ability to perform math calculations relevant to roofing work, such as basic algebra, geometry, rates, ratios, proportions and percentages. Technology – the ability to use computers, phones and other relevant technology tools. Siding installation – the ability to execute and teach others to execute siding installation skills. Safety and security – the ability to identify and correct unsafe conditions according to company and OSHA standards, using equipment and materials appropriately. Quality – attention to detail and quality assurance of project and crew members. Productivity – demonstrates the ability to meet and exceed standards, works quickly and accurately. Cost consciousness – understands budgeting and implications to jobs, develops and implements cost‑saving measures, displays orientation to profitability, works within approved budget. Customer service – desire to help customers even in difficult situations, managing difficult customer situations. Solicits customer feedback to improve service. Problem solving – ability to understand complex problems and make decisions that will benefit everyone as much as possible. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner.
