Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years Med/Surg/Tele RN experience required License: Current RN license Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) required, EKG Rhythm exam as part of onboarding, ACLS preferred, National certification in Medical-Surgical Nursing preferred but not required Must-Have: Strong clinical assessment and Med-Surg nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma Client Experience with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucomander experience, insulin drips, and heparin drips Ability to perform IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, and post-operative monitoring Experience in cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation Strong care coordination skills with an interdisciplinary team Experience in discharge planning and patient education, particularly on renal and fluid management Description: This position requires an RN in the MedSurg/Tele specialty. The facility has 637 licensed beds, is a designated Level 1 Trauma center, and functions as a teaching hospital. The unit consists of 30 beds with a typical census of around 30 patients. The patient population consists of pre and post-cardiac surgery patients and step-down ICU patients. Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, and sepsis. The patient-to-nurse ratio is typically 1:4-6. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) assist with various patient care tasks. The unit has a unit secretary during the day shift and requires charge nurses in each unit. Respiratory therapy and hospitalist services are available 24/7. Central telemetry monitoring is also available along with a PICC team for line management. The technology used includes EMR and specific monitoring and dispensing systems. Nurses may float to all Med-Surg telemetry units within the facility. Weekend rotation requires working 5-6 shifts per 6-week schedule. Holidays include working one shift during major holidays. Requests for time off must be approved by management. The unit culture emphasizes teamwork in a busy environment.
