The Waters of Columbia City is seeking a dependable, skilled, and passionate Traveling Cook to support our healthcare and assisted living communities throughout Fort Wayne and surrounding cities.

Position Summary

The Traveling Cook provides hands-on culinary support across multiple healthcare and assisted living communities. This role helps maintain consistent food quality, efficient kitchen operations, and excellent service while ensuring residents receive safe, nutritious, and delicious meals that meet their individual dietary needs.

You’ll travel between assigned facilities to assist with meal preparation, menu execution, staffing needs, and kitchen operations while following company standards and all applicable food safety and sanitation requirements.

Essential Job Responsibilities

• Travel between assigned healthcare and assisted living communities to support kitchen operations.

• Prepare and cook a variety of foods in large quantities while following standardized recipes, menus, and presentation guidelines.

• Maintain consistent food quality, portion sizes, flavor, temperature, and service standards across all locations.

• Support kitchen teams during staffing shortages, leadership transitions, new community openings, and operational changes.

• Help provide appealing, flavorful, nutritious meals that enhance the resident dining experience.

• Assist with menus that meet the nutritional and dietary needs of senior adults and healthcare residents.

• Properly prepare and serve modified diets, therapeutic diets, texture-modified foods, and allergen-sensitive meals.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen while following proper personal hygiene and food-handling practices.

• Monitor food storage, temperature control, labeling, dating, allergen management, and sanitation procedures.

• Follow all applicable federal, state, and local health regulations, as well as company and community policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Ability to prepare and cook a variety of foods in large quantities.

• Previous experience working with senior adults or healthcare populations preferred.

• Two years of dietary experience in a hospital or nursing facility preferred, but NOT required.

• ServSafe certification or an equivalent food-safety certificate.

• Flexibility and willingness to travel between assigned facilities.

• Strong teamwork, communication, organization, and time-management skills.

• A commitment to food safety, quality dining, and resident satisfaction.
