Our organization is seeking a Pulmonary Critical Care (PCC) Staff Physician who will also hold a dual academic position with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). This role will report to the Chief of Specialty Care and collaborate with other members of the PCC and subspecialty teams to deliver evidence-based, patient-focused care to veterans. The PCC Physician is expected to demonstrate patience, compassion, and appropriateness in their care, effectively promoting health and addressing disease prevention and treatment.

The Medical Center features a primary campus along with ten community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). As a 1a complexity tertiary care VA healthcare system, it is situated in one of the fastest-growing regions for the veteran population in the United States. The facility serves over 47,000 veterans across a 52-county area that includes western Tennessee, northern Mississippi, and northeast Arkansas. It is equipped with 236 inpatient beds, including a 26-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit, and functions as a teaching hospital, offering a comprehensive range of patient care services supported by advanced technology and extensive education and research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

The PCC Staff Physician will:

• Lead daily clinical rounds and discharge planning in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team in the ICU, pulmonary outpatient service, and pulmonary consultation service.
• Participate in the on-call schedule as assigned by the Service/Section Chiefs.
• Exhibit strong decision-making abilities in both clinical and administrative contexts, including serving on committees as a member or chair when necessary.
• Act as a mentor to Residents, Medical Students, and Fellows in the PCC field.

Position Highlights:

• Salary Based on Experience: $265,000 - $355,000 (Negotiable)

• Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 AM - 4:30 PM (with periodic on-call duties)

Qualifications:

• MD/DO degree

• Completed Residency/Fellowship in Pulmonary Critical Care

• Board Eligible/Certified in Pulmonary Critical Care

• Eligibility for a Faculty Appointment at UTHSC

• Possession of a full and unrestricted medical license from any state

• U.S. Citizenship

• Proficiency in both written and spoken English

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Able to build professional relationships with patients, colleagues, and VA staff
