Atlas is excited to be working with a doctor-led veterinary group opening a brand-new small-animal hospital in Glenview, Illinois, about 15 miles north of downtown Chicago. The group is looking for an experienced veterinarian to step in as Medical Director and shape the practice from its first day.

This is a ground-floor opportunity in the most literal sense. The hospital is being built with new equipment throughout, and the Medical Director will have a real say in the design and setup before the doors open. That means deciding how the space works for your doctors, your technicians and your patients rather than inheriting someone else’s layout and habits. The caseload will be general practice for dogs and cats: wellness and preventive care, medical workups, routine soft-tissue surgery and dentistry, with evidence-based medicine as the standard.

The group’s approach is built around doctors. Each role is shaped around the veterinarian’s own goals, schedule and preferred way of practicing, and clinical decisions stay with the clinicians. As Medical Director, you will hire and develop your own team, set the tone for hospital culture and grow the practice into a multi-doctor hospital over time. You will not be doing it alone. Operational and medical leaders across the group provide day-to-day support, and you will have direct access to a Medical Advisory Board, peer summits with other hospital leaders and structured leadership programs.

The ownership structure is a meaningful difference. Medical Directors can become equity partners and share in the success of hospitals across the group, so the work you put into building a strong practice comes back to you beyond your salary. The surrounding community adds to the appeal, with strong schools, large parks, a well-established town center and an easy commute into Chicago by Metra or highway.

About you

• DVM degree with at least five years of clinical practice experience
• Illinois veterinary licence, or eligibility to obtain one
• Confident in general practice medicine, routine soft-tissue surgery and dentistry
• Experience leading or mentoring veterinarians, or a clear readiness to take on that role
• Interested in hiring, developing and keeping a strong team over the long term
• Comfortable balancing clinical work with the business side of running a hospital
• Clear, considerate communicator with clients, colleagues and support staff
• Open to feedback and committed to improving the medicine and the team over time
