The role supports the fact-finding, resolution, and management of employee, field (as appropriate), and independent contractor issues. In addition, the Workforce Compliance & Ethics Consultant will proactively anticipate and manage compliance issues related to team-owned policies and processes through collaboration with COEs, HRBPs, and Business Leaders to appropriately manage enterprise risk. This position will support solutions aligned with Thrivent’s culture and policies, and legal requirements. Additionally, this role assists in identifying training opportunities, related policy and process improvements, and offers advanced subject-matter expertise and guidance on compliance related topics such as EEO and Non-Discrimination, Wage and Hour, ADA, Business Gifts & Entertainment, and Conflicts of Interest.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilize advanced subject matter expertise to provide guidance on compliance and policy related topics such as EEO and Non-Discrimination, Wage and Hour, ADA, Business Gifts & Entertainment, and Conflicts of Interest.
  • Provide expert consultation and guidance to business leaders, key stakeholders and COEs to ensure workforce matters are proactively managed and/or resolved while appropriately managing enterprise risk in line with Thrivent’s stated risk tolerance.
  • Identify and understand internal and external compliance and ethics trends and best practices to drive continuous improvement for team accountabilities and educate key stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Represent the team on business initiatives by independently leading projects, setting and managing timelines, escalating issues, and communicating progress with key partners and leaders.
  • Provide critical input into the formulation, consistent application, and revision of team-owned policies.
  • Develop new policies and update current policies to ensure compliance and sound practices for new or existing employment laws.
  • Identify process improvements for the team’s function and make recommendations, and incorporate updates to enterprise policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Identify and escalate workforce-related risk that could negatively impact Thrivent and its reputation.
  • Prepare, appropriately handle, and retain accurate and timely documentation of sensitive and confidential employee documents.
  • Provide field-related support including assisting with the Financial Advisor termination process and reviewing and preparing cease and desist letters regarding post-engagement activities of current or former Financial Advisors.
  • Maintain current knowledge and understanding of applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Provide strategic consultation, advice and support on enterprise organizational design, restructures, and reductions in force, including review of business cases and separation agreements.
  • Maintain appropriate practices to comply with Thrivent’s ADA obligations, including non-discrimination and accommodation obligations.
  • Review and evaluate reasonable accommodation requests through Thrivent’s ADA / Reasonable Accommodation Process.
  • Engage in the interactive conversation process with employees to determine whether an effective or reasonable accommodation is available under the ADA, which will allow the employee to perform the essential functions of their role.
  • Partner with employees, business leaders, and Human Resource Business Partners to ensure clear understanding of agreed upon accommodation, effectiveness and provide appropriate follow-up as necessary.
  • Administer, track, and report on team driven data including, but not limited to, proposals, data report generation and analysis, and preparation of presentation materials, communications, and implementation plans.
  • Establish and maintain trusted, key cross-functional relationships in Corporate Law, Compliance, Human Resources, Corporate Security, and with business leaders to resolve issues, and drive collaboration and coordination on projects, business initiatives and legal matters.
  • Support responses to agency charges, litigation, audits, or other reviews by partnering with Employment Law and other key stakeholders as needed.
  • Models Thrivent’s leadership competencies – Model the Way, Rally the Team, and Deliver Outcomes.
  • Supports and/or develops an environment in which Thrivent employees and colleagues are focused on continuous improvement, exceptional employee engagement, and an unwavering commitment to our clients.
