STATEMENT OF THE JOB :

Under the direct supervision of the Learning Coach Supervisor, the SpEd Learning Coach I assists the Teacher of record in the performance of their duties and in the supervision of special education students in a classroom setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Provides 1:1 or small group instruction consistent with lesson plans.
• Ensures safety of assigned students through assisting in classroom behavior management system and direct supervision.
• Assists in the preparation and care of instructional materials and equipment.
• Performs duties as assigned by the teacher and/or Supervisor including taking attendance, taking inventory, and ordering supplies.
• Acts in the capacity of substitute teacher if appropriately credentialed.
• Participates in student outings.
• Transportation of students to and from residential facilities to school Mon – Fri mornings.
• Ability to provide supervision and lessons at students’ residential facility instead of classroom based upon student’s needs or weather conditions.
• Effectively communicates with residential and management staff.
• Familiarity with NCASES standards and provision of services in alignment with NCASES national accreditation.
• Uploading daily progress notes into the electronic health record.
• Expected to meet all documentation requirements including any minimum standard set for billable hours.
• Passing/transporting & recording passed medications in compliance with standards.
• Responsible for opening their assigned youth residence and aiding in transitioning the clients from residence to classroom.
• Other reasonable tasks as assigned.

• Follows the agency’s’ policy for crisis intervention and management skills.
• Adheres to all policies and procedures including, but not limited to, HIPAA, PHI, Mandated Reporter Status & Procedures, Professional Relationships with Youth & Non-Minor Dependents, and all other Federal and State laws.
• Attends scheduled in-service training programs.
• Attends weekly team meetings.
• Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
• Practices good judgement and has ability to take initiative.
• Completes assigned program operational tasks in accordance with supervisory directives.
• Effectively communicates with residential and management staff.
• Regular attendance and punctuality is essential for role; with notice to supervisor of planned and unplanned absences in a timely manner.
• Sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
• Works cooperatively with others in a team-oriented manner.
• Must participate in Performance Quality Improvement and Risk Prevention.
• Provides and practices trauma-informed care services and modalities with actively using empathy and understanding in treatment of individuals.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS :

• Must possess a valid, unrestricted California Driver’s License; personal automobile liability insurance; and a driving record acceptable to Summitview’s insurance carrier.
• Must be physically and mentally fit; must be willing to complete a health screening including physical examination as required by our state licensing agency Community Care Licensing (CCL); and must have the unrestricted capacity to employ physical restraint techniques in a professionally safe manner.
• Must be willing to present a recent negative Tuberculosis test or be willing to take one. 
• Must be willing to complete and pass a Department of Justice (DOJ) personal background investigation to meet the requirements of our state licensing agency Community Care Licensing (CCL).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required:

• To talk or hear.
• To stand, walk, sit, use hands, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and taste and smell.
• Is occasionally required to climb or balance.
• Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more.
• May have to engage in physical intervention including but not limited to dropping to one’s knees, supporting another individual’s weight, moving an individual from one location to another, holding aggressive clients, etc. (requiring sustained, physical exertion on some occasions).
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth vision.
• Ability to drive company vehicle.

QUALIFICATIONS :

• 12 credits in behavioral health or related subjects, ECE or Special Education preferred.  
• Previous experience working in a classroom environment or working directly with Special Education students preferred.
• Previous experience working with youth with complex mental health behaviors preferred.

OTHER :

• Employment is at-will.
• The position is non-exempt.
• Shift times are dependent on agency needs - current schedule is 4 10 hour shifts
• Direct care staff positions follow Wage Order 5 overtime, meal, and break period rules.
