About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: ICU Duration: 20 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, CCRN Must-Have: Previous charge experience preferred. Patient ratio experience of 2-3. Charting system experience required, specifically with Epic. Description: The unit cares for critically ill medical/surgical patients. Conditions treated include sepsis, cardiac arrest, cardiovascular disease, respiratory failure, alcohol/drug overdose and withdrawal, post-op surgical care, gastrointestinal bleeding, end-of-life and comfort care, and complications from COVID-19. The ICU is a split unit with a total of 12 ICU beds distributed across two floors. Higher acuity patients are accommodated on the upper floor, staffed by three nurses at a 1:2 ratio. Lower acuity patients are placed on the lower floor, staffed by two nurses plus one patient care technician at a 1:3 ratio. Every other weekend coverage is required. Call duties are not included. Floating within the facility is required as needed. The unit accepts first-time travelers. Compliance with all requirements is necessary to start the assignment on time. If compliance is not met, there may be a two-week pushback due to orientation scheduling. Holidays falling within the assignment period must be worked as scheduled. Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, New Year's Eve/New Year's Day. The facility accommodates adults and geriatrics, with an average daily census of 12 patients. Interdisciplinary support is available, including therapy and social services. Essential skills include management of arterial lines, care for ventilated patients, central line management, IV management, and understanding of dysrhythmias. There is an expectation of readiness for emergency medications and infection prevention practices. Healthcare professionals must be prepared to handle complex patient situations, including multisystem organ dysfunction or failure. Compliance and onboarding completion are mandatory to ensure timely start of duties. Modules and training will be completed during orientation as necessary.
