Registered Nurse - Emergency Department City Campus - Full Time Varied Shifts

Job Description POSITION SUMMARY The Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with physicians. The RN employs the nursing care process consistent with licensure and/or certification, providing culturally competent care in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. Responsibilities include initiating and overseeing the interdisciplinary plan of care, coordinating with the medical treatment plan, and ensuring continuity of patient services. The patient care process consists of Assessment, Planning, Intervention, and Evaluation. The RN will also perform limited laboratory services (specimen collection, quality control, instrument maintenance, result reporting) and participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives. Responsibilities Conduct thorough assessments of patients, families, and significant others, including physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural data. Develop and document individualized plans of care, identifying problems, desired outcomes, and interventions guided by medical treatment plans. Implement interventions and orders consistent with the documented plan of care. Evaluate effectiveness of interventions, document outcomes, and revise plans as necessary. Perform laboratory tasks: patient identification, specimen preparation and processing, quality control testing, instrument maintenance, and result reporting to clinicians. Support performance improvement initiatives and provide leadership to the patient care team. Participate in ongoing professional development and educational activities. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred. RN without a BSN must enroll in a BSN program within 1 year and complete within 3 years. Current RN licensure in New Jersey or a current multi‑state license. BLS certification required. Valid New Jersey Driver’s License required for Adult and Child Partial Programs. Experience Minimum 2 years of medical/surgical and/or emergency room experience preferred. Trauma experience also preferred. Critical care, ICU, CTICU, CVU, HVU, telemetry, OR, PACU, or similar specialties experience preferred where listed in the unit description. Laboratory and procedural care experience is a plus. Certifications ACLS required at time of hire or within 6 months of hire/transfer. ATCN or TNCC required within 24 months of hire/transfer. PALS or ENPC attainment required within 12 months of hire/transfer. CCRN preferred for ICU roles; CCRN and CGRN preferred for cath‑lab and telemetry roles. Additional specialty certifications (e.g., Oncology, Structural Heart, Pediatric) may be required in specific units. Continuous professional education: minimum 8 contact hours of trauma or stroke education annually, and other specialty-specific continuing education as required by unit. Wound care and HBO training required within 1 year of hire/transfer for select units. Other unit specific certifications (e.g., CPI, NRP, EFM‑C) required per unit designation. Performance Expectations Demonstrate competency in department‑specific tasks as outlined in the Assessment and Evaluation Tool. Work Environment Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens, hazardous substances, and potential injury. Physical demands: stooping, kneeling, crouching, extensive standing, walking, stair climbing, lifting 25–100 pounds, and moving heavy equipment. Some departments require color discrimination. Unit / Population Served Bariatric, Cath Lab, Critical Care, Behavioral Health, Chronic Pain, Emergency Department, Intermediate Care, Medical‑Surgical, Telemetry, Stroke, Structural Heart, and other specialty units as listed. Reporting Relationship This position reports to the applicable unit or department leadership.
