Provides exceptional patient care in collaboration with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other physicians to deliver anesthesia for medical and surgical procedures. Serves as the focal professional for the continuity of care in patient care within scope of practice standards, as well as specialty‑specific standards to address and resolve problems that may arise. Responsibilities Clinical Care The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) implements accurate, safe, patient‑centric anesthetic care. Professional Skill Understands physiologic implications and anesthetic considerations of surgical procedures, constantly monitors vital signs, capnography, and pulse oximetry during anesthesia according to ASA guidelines. Information Management Ensures appropriate documentation in accordance with hospital and regulatory requirements and protects information of all forms, whether computer‑based, paper, film, voice, or other media, from unauthorized access, modification, destruction, or intentional or accidental disclosure. Quality Management Demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care. Professional Development Continuously engages in projects that maintain and advance professional competency. Qualifications Education Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist: Completion of a Certified Nurse Anesthetist Training Program; graduate of a Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists; current State of Connecticut Nursing License, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in the State of Connecticut. Experience Prefer clinical working experience as a CRNA within the given specialty/service line; none required. APRNs, PAs, CRNAs, and CNMs are required to be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS Hospital and credentialed through the Medical Staff process. Evidence of current competence to practice as an APRN, PA, CRNA, or CNM via appropriate reference letters from physicians and other practitioners must be obtained during the Medical Staff appointment process to be eligible. Licensure Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist AANA Certification; State of CT RN and APRN License; ACLS, DEA Registration, and State of CT Controlled Substance Registration. Special Skills Sharp concentration and focus, ability to remain calm under stressful conditions, clear and effective communication with surgeons, the surgical support team, patients, and families. A calm and reassuring manner inspires trust in patients who may be apprehensive about surgery, as well as the surgical team. Anesthetic patient management must be immediate and responsive. Flexibility and adaptability are required. Physical Demand Demonstrates intellectual‑conceptual, integrative and quantitative abilities; skills in observation, communication and motor functions; mature behavioral and social attributes. Detects and interprets changes in monitoring alarms and equipment. Maintains functional vision and hearing with no impairment of sense of smell and tactile sensation adequate. Can stand for long periods of time and wear lead as needed for fluoroscopy, X‑Ray cases. Can lift 25 pounds, reach above and below shoulder height, and negotiate patient care environments. Coordination of gross and fine muscular movements, equilibrium, and functional use of the senses of touch and vision is required. Problem‑solving and critical thinking are essential. Able to comprehend 3‑dimensional relationships and understand spatial relationships. Exhibits emotional health necessary for full utilization of intellectual abilities, good judgment, and prompt completion of responsibilities. Tolerates physically taxing workloads, functions effectively under stress, and adapts to changing environments, displaying flexibility and learning to function in the face of uncertainties inherent in many patients’ clinical problems.
