Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Job Summary:

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct care to residents under the supervision of the Nursing Unit Charge Nurse. This role involves assisting residents with activities of daily living, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and supporting the nursing team to ensure high-quality resident care. The CNA must demonstrate kindness, dignity, and respect while adhering to all policies, procedures, and confidentiality regulations. Responsibilities:

• Provide direct resident care including bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility, eating, toileting, and range of motion exercises.
• Respond promptly to resident call lights and keep call bells within reach.
• Observe and report any changes in resident condition, accidents, incidents, or emergencies to the nurse.
• Follow resident care plans and assist with transfers, lifting, ambulation, and fall risk prevention measures.
• Maintain residents' rooms and belongings to ensure a safe and neat environment.
• Assist in transporting residents within the facility and accompany them to appointments outside the nursing home as needed.
• Adhere to infection control policies and Standard Precautions.
• Support teamwork, cooperation, and a positive work environment.
• Report to work on time and follow staffing and scheduling policies including unit/shift reassignments.
• Maintain current CNA certification and complete required continuing education hours annually.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Completion of state-approved CNA training program.
• Current Massachusetts CNA Certification in good standing.
• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly and legibly.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical activities including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
• Ability to cope with physical and mental job stress.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience working in long-term care or similar healthcare settings.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Special Considerations:

• Must observe Resident Rights and HIPAA confidentiality regulations.
• Mandatory reporting of suspected or observed resident abuse as required by law.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
• Compliance with all facility policies and procedures.

Scheduling:

• Evening shift from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
• Shift assignments and unit re-assignments as per Nursing Department staffing policies.
